I don't care how overused CGI is in movies. This looks fucking awesome.
Also, because we probably won't be getting a Cloverfield sequel, and the Godzilla reboot is slated for 2014, this is the next best thing.
And yes, I also recognized the voice of the A.I.Last edited by Blacksite; 12-13-2012 at 01:29.

I remember when Guillermo was talking about the movie at Comic-con. I knew this was going to be cheesy and CGI-stuffed, but I enjoyed his enthusiasm for "the best giant fucking robots fighting giant fucking monsters movie". Ok, that's not an exact quote, it was 6 months ago... but it was damn close to that.
Yuuichi- I don't think actual IMAX, probably just converted. But it'll still be bigger than regular screens.

I think this can be awesome. Also I see they actually have some good actors in there. I hope this movie is awesome, that trailer was pretty badass.

I hope this film does well, I really like Del Toro. Now that he is more established, I would hope the studio heads give him more free reign in making the film the way he wants it done and not like what happened to him with Mimic.

hahahaha This looks so f..g terrible OMG. I was expecting something like Neo Genesis Evangelion and what I got was Power Rangers, the designs are so bad and ugly and I mean Real Steel and Bayformers levels of bad.
Hey del Toro next time you should call to Shoji Kawamori for help.

This looks like excellent junk food for my brain. Watching giant mechs fight giant alien monsters is usually pretty fun.

That trailer was sick! Looking forward to see the movie. Gotta love how all those monsters and big machinery were designed gorgeously.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks great!
So far the only thing i see wrong with it is that Charlie Day is in it.

I don't get what's wrong with the designs. They're more realistic than anything out of Neon Genesis Evangelion or Power Rangers. And unlike Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy, Guillermo del Toro isn't obligated to follow any source material for a pre-existing franchise.

That's the point dude was expecting the design to look like an Eva unit or even a Gundam.
I like the realstic look but wish they had a tad bit more flair.

I think basing it off those Japanese designs would only serve to make it unoriginal.

I agree. As fan of those Mecha Animes I do not want a live action sort of like them, I would want a live action Exactly like them. The portal robot voice is a very nice touch. I do not think del Toro is much into mecha anime so I doubt we will see "in the know jokes" as much as I would like that.

This looks fucking awesome. I have complete faith in Guillermo Del Toro. Since when did CGI dictate whether the movie is gonna suck or not? It's really what the director does with it, and also the studio if it's not independently funded. Come on, you other doubters, this is Guillermo Del Toro we're talking about there. The guy who made the awesomeness that was Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy 2. And even Blade 2, but that's just cause I'm a Blade fan.

The mecha designs remind me of the older Japanese mech designs that you see in Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) or even Big O.
Personally, I have mixed opinions about what has been show of the film and am still wary about getting to excited. I have liked Guillermo del Toro's films so far.
Plus, if Pacific Rim does well, hopefully it will encourage development of other live-action mecha films. Perhaps maybe pushing the live-action Evangelion adaptation out of development hell and into production. I was really excited when I heard WETA was interested in Eva and had a little pre-production work done as well (that was nearly 10 years ago).
