This is my second time that I had to upgrade my PS3 HDD from 60 to 750 and from 750 to 1TB. I will use the 750GB on my slim PS3 160GB as Iam low on space. But my phat PS3 took from 1TB 169, as I have free of space 831. Isn't this alot? 169GB the PS3 software took automatically.![]()

think it reserves 15% for the operating system and stuff. I thought max was 500gb for ps3s, would like to upgrade my ps3s hdd but waiting on a refurb arriving, my 5th ps3. My old fat ps3 I put a 320gb in there but that ps3 died and my bro's fat ps3 he never upgraded the 60gb so i was dubious about putting a different hdd in a new ps3. Does the hdd you put in have to be a certain speed like 5400 etc?

Why the hell do you need so much space? You should delete useless things and not collect them as at the end your hd is like a trash can. I have my PS3 Slim 320 GBs and I have still around 80% free space left.

Why delete things when you can get a large HDD? They could be filled up with media

Yeah bought the 500gb one at £39.99 free 1 year warranty, thats plenty big for me. I was down to 15gb on the 160gb ps3 and price of a 320gb hdd on ebay is similar to the 500gb so I got the 500gb. 750 or 1tb would be just wasted for me (and twice the price) I have an external 250gb I use on my ps3 to watch films and stuff, no need to copy them to the ps3s hdd. Just wanted a bigger hdd for ps plus stuff mainly.
edit:- btw does anyone know if I can go ahead and just swap new 500gb hdd straight away onto new ps3 or do I need download firmware and stuff on the one thats in it first?

What kind of mentality is that? Would you buy a 16GB MP3 player that could only hold a fraction of your music collection or would you buy a 160GB one that can fit most if not all of your music?
I don't know how much HDD's cost in Switzerland but here in the UK they ain't that much money that it could be considered a waste. In fact, a quick search just shown me that you can get a 1TB for only £61
Some people don't like to delete things, they like to have everything in one place without having to re-download something again. Don't understand how that would be a waste of money.I Like Games.

I usually transfer two HDDs in a USB 3.0 docking station. That seems to work very quickly.
