    How do you get a DVD onto a psp mem. stick via USB?

    First, you need to rip a DVD. There are free tools available for that, just search the net. Next, you will need PSP Video9 to convert riped vidoe into a properly formated MP4 movie. Finaly, if you didn't set PSP Video 9 to do so automatically, transfer the video to the memory stick as instructed in the PSP's manual.

    Edit: Note that you need a large ammount of space on the mem stick. If yours is less than 256MB, I don't think there is even a point trying. 512MB and up should hold a movie in descent quality.
