We haven't got a proper ticket picking bowler hat otherwise that would have been fun. What you suggest there would have been a fix, giving the prize to a member when he was second.
The problem is we get competitions based on our reach on the site and the amount of people that will potentially enter. Look at the DUST codes. There were about half a dozen members who wanted them and 150 noobs. My fear is if we do put strict limitations on competitions then we'll have none at all. I have to go back now and let Ripstone know how many people read the post and how many people entered. They look at this and it affects their decision to run more competitions for us. Just to let you know these competitions aren't paid for at all. We actually go hunting for them so we can give away prizes.

The least you can do is not let people enter and win who literally created an account on the end date and was the last person to submit their entry. For example- COMP rules u can only enter if u had an account before the date comp was posted ! very simple solution to keep things fair! And u say that if u was to fix it you would give it to a regular member. But then i could say whats stoppin me from thinking one of PSU has made a sly account to win it themselves? I dont think that but i could be thinking that? its not like it dosent happen . Hope u hear what im saying .

Yeah, I completely understand.
I would like to say that I'm the only person involved in this competition at PSU. No other member of staff is involved at all. I've handled it all. I have three PS3s, a debug PS3 and a PS Vita and those three games. Believe me, I don't want another PS3...my wife would kill me if I put one in the bedroom
If it's any solace, the winner hasn't claimed his prize as yet. Who knows, we could be re-drawing.

This wouldn't be a bad idea. It could even be a floating date, say, you have to have signed up X weeks/months before the date of the comp. We have a large readership who come here all the time but don't necessarily post in the community (which is why a post count limit could be a solution, but not quite fair to everyone). I think these readers should also have a chance.

Well to be fair any Comps on PSU should be biased towards Forums posters as it's the Posters & not the Browsers who keep the Forum going
I think the best way to help run Future Comps is to have them SP based so that any fairly new people have to post/Contribute in the Forum to earn themselves any SP.

I agree with this, but the forums exist because of the front page news...and it is the browsers/lurkers who check our front page more than the community (who often links news from other sites in threads, even if we have it on FP). It's a tricky call...I'm sure we will find a harmonious solution, as I honestly dislike seeing stuff go to lurkers/browsers.

Believe me, we're taking all of this on board and we'll certainly look at running future competitions differently to reward the people that really help keep us going.
@Boz The debug is fun when you get a game miles in advance but it doesn't happen as often these days. I hate playing a game in its entirety on debug but not getting trophies for it. I'd then have to purchase the retail game to get them. Not that I'm a trophy whore or anything, would just be nice to be able to play from the same account.
