PlayStation 3 sales top 30 million in Europe

PlayStation 3 sales have reached 30 million units across Europe and the PAL territories as of December 17, Sony has announced.

“This is a major milestone for us and clearly shows just how popular the PlayStation brand and products are within Europe and the PAL territories”, said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “We are really pleased with the success of the PS3 system over the last six years, and are committed to continuing our support of the platform with high quality products and titles that are of the caliber that PlayStation fans have come to expect.”

PlayStation 3 launched in Europe in March 2007. The latest PlayStation 3 redesign, the ‘PS3 Super Slim’, was launched in October this year.

That's just less than half of PS3 sales isn't it? Not surprised as PAL nations (which is an antiquated zoning system if I'm not mistaken) have traditionally been Sony-sympathetic.

Yeah, 30 million out of 70.2 million worldwide sales. I haven't checked but I'm sure the numbers are higher in Japan than they are for North America.

The PS3 is very popular in Europe. It's good to see Sony reaping the rewards over there. That's nearly half the total sales of the PS3.

It's currently £120 at the likes of Amazon, Tesco etc . that's for the 12gb one of course so if you got an old hdd knockin about that's fantastic value

I'm about to get me a PS3 but I don't see any reason to get a Super Slim over a Slim (I don't care about storage since I don't see myself storing a bunch of stuff or downloading a bunch of content). I read the Super Slim is noisier and that the Slim doesn't even use any more power than the Super Slim does.

My super slim is pretty quiet. The only time I hear it is when I first boot up a game.

Congrats to Sony for turning around the fortunes of the PS3. I have fond memories of my first and second PS3 consoles. Awesome machines. Here's to hoping the PS4 gets off to a great start. Sony for life

You will definitely use more than the 12GB that's included, some games require 6GB alone.
