Weak sales confirmed by Nintendo - Ruh Roh!

This doesn't bode well for Nintendo. When I bought my Wii in spring of 2007, it was sold out everywhere and I had to buy a bundle with like 5 games in it. In that bundle, everything was full price. The stores had the leverage because of the supply/demand issues. Now, just a month after launch and they're selling bundles with FREE games?

Doesn't bode well for Nintendo? In the first 4 weeks, the Wii U sold 1.8 million units. The Xbox 360 sold 940,000. This is certainly not a sign that Nintendo is struggling and needs bundles to sell their console.

This is just Best Buy trying to get people to buy from their store over others.

Nintendo has to sign off on these promos. Best Buy can't do this without approval. This means that the supply channels are chokes with products and that they are desperate to dump inventory... Also, nintendos stock price is falling because illegal insider trading is happening and the large funds are selling before anyone else know. These guys are criminals. Same thing happened with thq. I have a long post about it. That's not to say Nintendo is going out of business just that some bad news is coming during their next cc.

    edit:
After reading the article more closely, it seems obvious that the Wii U has already sold all it's going to sell. It was in stock all Christmas season so anyone that wanted it would have bought it. This means that demand has been reached and no more units will sell until free games or pricing discounts are given. The original Wii sold 4 million during the holiday season and it sold out the entire time, meaning that demand wasn't met so they sold every console they made. Not so with the Wii U. If you think they'd be giving away free games with the console purchase if the thing sold out or was near sold out, you have no understanding of the way company's sell products.

Probably because Best Buy is mostly just selling Deluxes so they need to move their Basic stock somehow.

I know exactly how companies sell products. I also know that some companies pay for exclusive package deals..... I also know that the Wii U is the fastest selling console in the past decade.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Personally I don't see the value in the basic set the deluxe comes with more value for an extra 50 bucks.

I think they vastly overestimated demand for the basic. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first step in eliminating that line. Even if they decide to keep the basic around, it's clear that they can't sell them and they made way too many. No doubt they're trying to cut their losses during the same quarter as the thing launched to hide their screw up in the quarterly numbers.

If you understand these things then kindly explain why the best selling console in history or whatever you claim has any kind of deal associated with it. That is by no means standard practice.

Could possibly be the case with the basic set its been over produced and not selling as well as the deluxe model. That's a reasonable assumption.

There could be numerous reasons. Maybe nobody is buying that shitty Nintendoland game by itself and Best Buy figured bundling it with the basic edition would push more 8gb models. Not to mention that Nintendoland is basically pure profit.

Since the Wii U is the fastest selling console, thus far. It would be ridiculous to think that this bundle has anything to do with the lack of unit sales.

You paid $349.99 for a system without knowing why you bought it? Open it up and enjoy it.

does this include the 350 gig hard drive needed to play the game because the system update eats the 3.2 gigs that was free on the 8 gig console and the game requires 3.2 gigs including updates

I like the basic model because I like the white better than the black. Black gets too dirty. I do wish Nintendo decided to make them both deluxe packages though, especially since it was only a $50 difference.

What store doesn't except returns on unused unopened products with a reciept 1 day after purchase o_O? That don't sound right to me...
PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

I've been to a few stores like this, if it's not broke and don't need to use warranty to fix a problem, they owe you nothing

That's why I held off getting the deluxe. Nintendoland isn't for me. It's just me and my wife. I'll eventually get it because it looks fun, but I wouldn't get the most out of it. I just used that $50 and got ZombiU instead!
And as others have said, I think this is more to do with the basic specifically instead of the Wii U in general. On launch morning, there were at least 15 or 20 people in line and I was one of the only ones getting the basic.
Thanks to THUGGEDOUT for the sig, The Black Wolf for the av.
