I know it's quite an old game, but I still struggle to progress in GT5. I am good at racing games, but I can never get the right cars to do each race, and it seems that I can only use each car for one or two races.
I am at level 12.
Any thoughts?

Maybe what you need is setup the cars properly. A common mistake people make is taking a very powerful car that handles poorly. Go for handling over power. If you need to tune your car, get a better suspension, maybe a different transmission if you see the gears are too low, and drivetrain. Also consider getting wings for your car, but beware that as you add downforce, the pp of your car raises.
Once you have a better suspension, make sure the ride is lower and the suspension harder (unless you're doing rally).
If there's a particular race you're struggling let us know.

No. It's a simulator that doesn't hold your hand. It's always been a very technically specific game and should stay that way.
My favorite part of it has always just been the messing around, not even the racing. Teaching myself how to drift in GT5 was probably one of the most rewarding experiences of this gen for me.

Simulation games are overall very hard.

Yea i never really found it hard either but again i think i had pretty decent cars in most of my races.
GT5 is one of those games were the smallest changes to a car could make a noticeable difference, happened enough times to me haha. Try to get the car that the race winner usually is in or similar.
Also always improve the grip of cars.

You need better cars I always found myself getting stuck but all I did was practice more and in the end it benefited later on in the game when I had better cars

Just takes practice, who would have thought it.
GT5 is the only game I miss since my PS3 became redundant.
