Note that we haven't written about this on the site because we just don't think it will happen, but it hasn't stopped some people speculating.

These guys and a few other sites reckon that the PS4 could be announced at the DESTINATION PLAYSTATION event held in Arizona in February. I mean they announced Sleeping Dogs from there last year, but it's hardly the platform to get the eyes of the world watching.
Still think it will be E3?

It'd be cool, if true, but I think they'll get more buzz at E3. Especially with a teaser trailer for Gran Turismo 6 since we didn't get one last year.

With TLoU and GoW both out in Spring all signs point to PS4 bein released in at least one region next fall, but for some reason I still remain doubtful
I agree E3 would be a better choice. Or a special event where they announce it, and follow up on price etc at E3 - probably the best way to get buzz going actually

If they announce it in February when would it launch? Summer is typically a bad period to launch a product so if it would be released in the autumn why announce it next month and kill PS3 sales? Unless they plan to release it immediately. No, it doesn't make sense. E3 makes sense on every level.

That usually backfires. Better to announce it when they know they are close to release. E3 for a holiday release or early 2014 makes sense. If they announce it early and then need to delay the release they'll suffer the Osborne effect which, frankly, Sony, financially, can't afford. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect

Playstation Vita was announced at the Playstion Meeting on January 27, 2011. Something else was announced at a January Playstation meeting as well.
I don't think any hardware has ever been announced at Destination Playstation.

If its not announced before E3 its not going to come out in 2013, its as simple as that.

It's possible that they would have an early teaser and announce all the details by e3

E3 is almost far fetched. A February teaser of some amazing looking yet vague target render seems likely though, if that's what they mean. Gotta start hinting eventually.

I know the PS Vita was officially announced at E3 2011 and was released in Japan in Dec 2011, so maybe Sony is starting to close the announcement/release gap of their systems, but like Dave-The-Rave said, if it isn't announced before E3 this year I don't have high hopes of it coming out this holiday season...hopefully I am wrong and the fact that the PS2 has stopped production in Japan means they are starting to put their focus on PS4/Orbis production like when they stopped building PS1's, but only time will tell...

Def the discontinuing of the PS2 is a good sign that the PS4 is coming soon.

I think there will be a PlayStation Meeting like when the Vita was announced, probably after The Last of Us comes out but before E3. At E3 unveil loads of games for it.

I doubt they'll announce it before E3, and I don't see it happening this E3. Hopefully they are still working on it and coming up with a strategy to maximize power yet keep it relatively affordable at launch. Every creditable rumor (and that's not saying much) I've heard from folks working on next gen games points to a 2014 release window; that's not going on much, but most likely 2nd half of 2014 from what I've heard but couldn't report.

If they do release it in time, I just hope it won't have too many hardware failures.

No matter what race you are or what you look like or your sexuality or where you come from, We are all the same people and we are all bothers & sisters so love each other & don't let anyone tell you any different.
Remember you can't choose what you are from birth but you can choose what you want to become.
Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they are not there we all got to have something to believe in.

E3 is too perfect of a time. They have too many games to push in the first half of the year. Sly, God of War and The Last of Us.
