December NPD numbers

ESTIMATES from analysts FYI.
Wii U sales came in between 600,000 and 675,000 units in the US in December, the console's first full month of availability in the territory, analysts have estimated.
Weighing in with sales predictions ahead of the NPD Group's release of official market data this Thursday, January 10, both Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter and fellow analyst firm EEDAR said Xbox 360 was by far the best-selling console in North America last month. On the software front, Pachter said he expects sales to be led by new release Far Cry 3 and recent high-profile releases including Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Halo 4, Assassin's Creed 3 and Just Dance 4.
Wedbush / EEDAR December 2012 hardware sales estimates (change year-on-year):
- 360 - 1,700,000 (-2%) / 1,550,000 (-11%)
- 3DS - 1,140,000 (-29%) / 1,350,000 (-16%)
- PS3 - 900,000 (-5%) / 950,000 (0%)
- Wii U - 675,000 (n/a) / 600,000 (n/a)
- DS - 600,000 (-7%) / 400,000 (-38%)
- Wii - 500,000 (-53%) / 550,000 (-48%)
- Vita - 300,000 (n/a) / 300,000 (n/a)
- PSP - 20,000 (-92%) / 30,000 (-88%)
- PS2 - 500 (-98%) / (n/a)
- Total - 5,835,500 (-7%) / 5,730,000 (-9%)
North American Wii U sales hit 400,000 units during the console's first week of availability in November, Nintendo has claimed.
And this week the company's global president Satoru Iwata said Wii U is "selling steadily", although not at the same level achieved by the console's predecessor, the original Wii, during its launch period.

After six years this is no surprise, although the Wii U numbers are both surprising & unsurprising
Its surprising that it didn't sell more and unsurprising due to the system itself and the general opinion on it at the moment

I think it's more impressive that the PS3 nearly broke 1 mil and supposedly had a bad lineup of holiday games.
The 360 had another Halo and Forza game. Then you can throw in Black Ops 2 with the 360 being the go to shooter console and it's not shocking that it sold that many consoles.

And whats even more impressive is that a console with supposedly no exclusives and charges for online play drastically outsells a console with more exclusives and free online play.

90% of sales are more then likely from people who don't know or care about exclusives
Madden & COD is all they care about and a cheap console is a must, even if theres a fee for online
They don't think about that at the counter, customers are dumb (in general, not just gaming related ones)
I work in retail and they do tend to think they are getting a good deal when they're not due to the way we market stuff
For example, I buy baby wipes for my little girl
and the offer is usually buy 1 get one free
Wipes are Ł2, now that company will change that offer to Half-price every now and again
Now people think they are getting a good deal with those offers but in reality they are always paying the same price, its just the marketing has changed and people never question it
Now my company offers a savings on certain products but then we put that product up to full price but send out vouchers for money off
People go crazy when we do this and sales go through the roof, but yet again we are selling the product for the same price we always have even with the money off vouchers
I actually recommend you pay attention when you are shopping next to spot it at your local shops incase you never have
Anyway that was just my explanation of why I say customers are dumb, incase you thought it was soley to do with 360 sales lol

lol The people are dumb excuse again. Maybe Sony's exclusives dont really appeal to them. An unthinkable concept on this forum I know. Believe it or not most people do research on the internet before blowing $300 on a console even those who dont frequent forums.

No surprises. 360 had better bundles, lower prices and a blockbuster exclusive.

Older games in the sales, Skyrim (yeah I know) MW3 even FFXIII-2 of all things
Do people really think new console owners buy the latest charted games?
Loads of cheap games with their new console! not hard to believe no?
But the 360 had a good month, I didn't think I was tarnishing that fact, why assume I did?

Exclusives don't even come into it, a majority of sales of both PS3 & 360 are joined by games available on both platforms
I can get a 360 with a bunch of games for the price of PS3 with 1 game, this Christmas that made a lot of people's decisions for them, they didn't do research
This ain't you or me buying a console, this is parents or Girlfriends or whatever
I'm talking about the value the customer is advertised, which with PS3 they see it as the same, just more expensive
Now can we stop turning everything into me "discredited the 360 sales" it seems you can't give the other a pro with giving a neg to the other
Which I ain't doing, in short (captain obvious) 360 has better marketing and it shows, and those bundles (both official & none official) helped a lot
PS3 had pro, 360 had a pro+
Thats all I'm saying, that allowed?
But customers are still dumb, nothing 360 related B-)

*Yawn*
Its seems my radical explanation of my opinion on the general public buying habits which held no ties to 360 buyers/owners which I've stated many times seems to have failed me as much as your reading & comprehension skills have failed you, otherwise that would have been funny.
