I agree with him. Sure looking at his stuff he's probably not the ideal candidate to say such but there just aren't that many risks being taken by the big guys, as lets be honest they can come up with some great and creative stuff if they really tried. As of lately though that just doesn't seem to be that case. (ps. personally do not count improvements in sequels as some of us seem to)

I agree with him.

Claud listed three games that are prime examples of IPs that have run their course and lack creativity. When each subsequent release is a rehash of the previous game, with minor changes to the environments or mechanics, then there is no creativity left.

Zelda. Most the games take place in Hyrule, with the same premise, monsters and mechanics.
Grand Theft Auto. The last four console releases were the same.
The Elder Scrolls. Same game each time. Another prisoner saving the world! Same mechanics; more or less snow each game.

Sequels are good as long as they don't feel like a step back. I think every great game with a great story is worthy of at least a trilogy.

Being PS3 owners we have so many awesome new IPs to choose from so creativity is never lacking.

Yeah,but with each on of those titles the 2nd was arguably the series zenith..more of the same afterwards..with the exception of RE2..that prolly woulda been a good thing

There's a point though where one or two sequels of an original give studios a chance to refine and enhance what had a solid core in the first game but also was notably flawed. Even an FPS with 8 or more sequels, they have their place. Sometimes we want to try this wild new Polynesian/Czech fusion restaurant. Sometimes we just want a hamburger that tastes as good as the one we had two weeks ago.
