"Y'all come to Texas.", said state official (gun owners)

    http://news.yahoo.com/yall-come-texa...223149333.html

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has a message for New York gun owners: Come to Texas, and bring your guns with you.

"Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that," Abbott, a Republican, said on Thursday, after ads extolling Texas appeared on several media websites.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed sweeping gun-control legislation earlier this week expanding the state's ban on assault weapons and putting limits on ammunition capacity in the wake of last month's school shootings in Connecticut.

Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year's election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany.

One ad says in classic Western script: "WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities."

Clicking on the ad leads to a Facebook page touting the virtues of Texas, including the fact that the state has no income tax so "you'll be able to keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo."

Abbott told Reuters the ads are a "way to tweak our liberal friends up in the Northeast."

"It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here," he said. "Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity."

Abbott has said he will file a federal lawsuit to throw out any nationwide gun restrictions implemented by Congress.

A Cuomo spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

    Props to this guy then.

Government can stay the hell out of my life.

Erks me to no end that they presume to dictate how many rounds in a damn magazine my rifle can have for it to be "acceptably safe for the public".

    I second this.

People don't seem to understand the importance of gun ownership.

He is right Texas is a great place to experience real freedom. Gov does not tell you how to live everyday life. You can actually defend yourself there and not worry about getting in trouble or sued. If someone jumps over your fence into your yard with a gun you can shoot them then and there and not worry about them having to go inside your house befor you can shoot them. I have def been looking at moving to Texas in the past few years.

I wouldn't mind living in Texas, but I'd probably get annoyed quickly by the Spanish speaking population.

This is 'murrica, so you should be speaking 'murrican.

Depends on how south you go, up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area it isn't too bad, but if you get down to San Antonio it is more common down there. I am from Long Island, NY and my family moved here many years ago and there are things I still have to adjust to (mostly the way people from here pronounce stuff)!

The only time I hear Mexican is at fast food restaurants and on the rare occasion I go to Walmart (Walmart has some great deals on motor oil).

Is the Mexican population in Texas in high number, or is it just the people who cross the border have the decency to at least assimilate and learn our language? Two cities nearby, Manassas and Woodbridge, are straight up shit and I think it's largely due to an influx of El Salvadorians and Mexicans who settled in the area with a refusal to "when in Rome"...

@Completely Average, it is not Texan...it is just learning to speak proper English...

@Chickenooble, it's getting there...and I have run into quite a few that refuse (or don't try very hard) to learn the language

Have you shot up a movie theater lately? How about a school? Remind me again, which forward thinking state brought us the Columbine Massacre?

Define "Proper English" Keep in mind that I've actually been to England. Do you use the spelling "color" or proper English "colour"? Do try to keep your response civilised, like proper English people do.

Sure is nice living in the south. We have most of the freedoms that you guys have in Texas here in Louisiana. Texas sure is a great place. The people in this part of America are just much nicer in general than everywhere in the country I have been. I've been to a large portion of the USA. Wouldn't trade southern hospitality for anything.

I visited Shreveport, Louisiana last year for a business trip. For such a shit hole city I was expecting a bunch of rude and uneducated. I was surprised. You can tell the city was a poor place and that the people didn't have much but they were all very hospitable and kind. I certainly judged that book by the cover, but I'm glad I flipped through a couple pages before putting it back on the shelf.

Once I make my millions I'll retire in the south.
