???
RSX wasn't a moble GPU and it was known that they scaled it back.
I see the gaffers are saying that the article is also incorrect in saying that it is a moble GPU. If it is the 7970 instead of the 7970M then that is a big difference.
I can see in downclocking the 7970 but not the 7970M.

A high-end-like mobile GPU sounds about right. Mobile GPUs are already first and foremost designed to deliver low-watt, powerful graphics performance in devices with tight air flow constrictions, and so it only makes sense.

fuck sake, i can't find it. give me a sec, it made sense
yeah, basically he must have used a 7970M for comparison. so he must mean its already been underclocked.
*edit: although the 7870-7970M isn't a 6% decrease i don't think.
fuck knows. i've had one too many beers.Last edited by J3ff3; 01-19-2013 at 04:26.

I'm getting tired of these fucking rumors just as to how sam jackson was tired of those motherf'n snakes on the plane. I want to hear it from the horses mouth and see some damn games already.
I don't need no relationship with my tv. Why the hell should I pay you more money to use features I can get at the touch of a button on my remote? Oh, you want me to use these features with a camera and my voice instead? I'm not that damn lazy and I want to save some money FOR GAMES.

Well that doesn't matter since the original ps3 was costing sony ~$840 to make and they were selling for $599. This time their costs are drastically reduced because of a traditional design and no exotic R&D costs. Blu ray is also much cheaper.
It could still happen. If it does, ps4 will be an instant hit, 70 million ps3 users suddenly will have a great reason to own a ps4

Well some interesting post popped up on NeoGAF
Hey folks. Just got approved and this is my first post!
I hate to be that "guy" that brings more "insider information" to the table(especially since it's my first post and nobody knows if I'm trustworthy), but I will be for right now. I have a friend who is very, very close with Sony. I won't say what he does or who he is, but I can relay what he has told me.
I haven't kept up on this page completely so hopefully I'm bringing some new information. I showed him the rumored leaks from yesterday and he said the only thing they really got right was the RAM. According to him(I don't know tech talk very well so you might understand this better than I) the APU has 4 steamroller cores in it, bandwidth to the GDDR5 is high. Cell runs the show(OS, security, IO, etc.) and also acts as a satellite/accelerator processor for the steamroller cores. APU has access to the XDR in a similar way that RSX does. There is an SCC(Super Companion Chip) inside as well.
The ram is only 3.5gb and is in 3 pools. 2GB GDDR5 for the APU(which is not an A10), 1GB DDR3 for the SCC, and 512mb XDR(for Cell). He said the APU has 256GB/s to the GDDR5, devkits though. There is no cell in the devkit yet, maybe 1st party ones, cell integration needs final silicon.
It will be backwards compatible with PS3 AND PS2. As far as the new controller rumor, he doesn't know much as far as design goes but did say that there is no screen on the controller, however, you can use another device to have that. I assume he's hinting at the vita?
Anyways, that's the info I received. No need to believe it and I'm not saying it is 100% accurate, just going by what I've been told.Thanks for the welcome everyone. I've waited quite a long time
And thanks for the the ban tip. Like I said I'm not saying this is fact, just going by what I've been told by someone who has told me things in the past about Sony that have come true. But I won't relay many things anymore, especially if it's completely opposite of what everyone else is saying. I can see how that can be total BS.
He said a Super Companion Chip is: Cell's peripheral LSI, which houses audo and image interfaces supporting high-speed data transfer capability. The chip also supports a group of interfaces for various systems (video, audio input/output, digital AV interface, IEEE1394, digital tuner interface) and a group of interfaces that make it easier to connect standard input/output devices (standard bus interface, high speed network interface and storage device interface.) It's made by Toshiba.
Also the leaks I showed him weren't the DF one, it was the VG247 leak from the other day.
Linky 1 Linky 2
This to me seems more believable.Case: HAF-X Motherboard: Asus CHV CPU: FX8320@4.4GHz GPU: Asus DCUII 7950 RAM:Mushkin redline @ 2133MHz HDD: Crucial M4 256

wouldn't it be stretching it to massively change specs at this point (if it's true that launch window is being aimed at fall '13), what that dude with absolutely no credibility is saying seems rather distant from what we've heard from more reputable sources such as digital foundry and vgleaks. Though at this point all this shit is just rumours so whatever
399 or bust!

Im thinking I read somwthing within the last couple months that stated sony was patenting tech that allows cell to play nice with other processors,.or something like that.
If I did, this would make sense.
Waiting,for mynd, itachi, and the other brains to decipher this.

@Nitey
Change what specs exactly? All we know so far are just baseless rumors nothing more.
It would make sense having something that is crazy unbelievable for a Sony console, rather than a custom PC in a box.Case: HAF-X Motherboard: Asus CHV CPU: FX8320@4.4GHz GPU: Asus DCUII 7950 RAM:Mushkin redline @ 2133MHz HDD: Crucial M4 256

I mean if we were to take the majority of the 'latest' rumours and stack it up against that wild spec from a 1st poster on neogaf then I think I'd be more inclined to believe what digital foundry/vgleak sources are saying
If things have changed into what this 1st poster is saying then I find it hard to believe because how has no one else picked up something similar
Like you said it's all rumours and shit.

I was hoping for x86 arcitecture. Like the vita. Easier to develop for. Sony needs to quit making alien technology with the competition they have.
Bend did an amazing job on uncharted, and its a launch title.

Steamroller has shown up in many previous other reports aswell (first one in fact), people just assumed Sony switched to jaguar like 720 to lower the heat and power consumption. So this seems very plausible. If true, ps4 will be EVEN MORE ahead of the 720.
That's the thing, Sony has learned not to put out alien tech. Vita is the proof. Going with AMD for both CPU and GPU is the best they could do. The memory divisions also make sense
I also read something about the cell being shrunk to 22nm
Anyway, news that cell will return with BC has me grinning ear to ear
for non tech savy people here are dbz cell saga comparisons:
Wii U = Picollo (kami fusion)
Durango = Vegeta (cell games)
Orbis = Goku (cell games)Last edited by itachi73378; 01-20-2013 at 00:25.
