    VGLeaks Durango specs: x64 8-core CPU @1.6GHz, 8GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM, 50GB 6x BD...

    http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusi...ango-unveiled/

As we promised during the weekend in the next weeks we will unveil Durango and Orbis. All the technical info you want to know about the next generation machines from Sony and Microsoft.

The first one is Durango. In this article we present the system overview with the general components and some technical details about them.

    How are durango components connected?

Here you can see the Durango system block diagram:

    Durango Arquitecture

Let’s check what’s inside the box:

    CPU:

    - x64 Architecture

    - 8 CPU cores running at 1.6 gigahertz (GHz)

    - each CPU thread has its own 32 KB L1 instruction cache and 32 KB L1 data cache

    - each module of four CPU cores has a 2 MB L2 cache resulting in a total of 4 MB of L2 cache

    - each core has one fully independent hardware thread with no shared execution resources

    - each hardware thread can issue two instructions per clock

    GPU:

    - custom D3D11.1 class 800-MHz graphics processor

    - 12 shader cores providing a total of 768 threads

    - each thread can perform one scalar multiplication and addition operation (MADD) per clock cycle

    - at peak performance, the GPU can effectively issue 1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second

High-fidelity Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor is always present

    Storage and Memory:

    - 8 gigabyte (GB) of RAM DDR3 (68 GB/s)

    - 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM (ESRAM) (102 GB/s)

    - from the GPU’s perspective the bandwidths of system memory and ESRAM are parallel providing combined peak bandwidth of 170 GB/sec.

    - Hard drive is always present

    - 50 GB 6x Blu-ray Disc drive

    Networking:

    - Gigabit Ethernet

    - Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct

    Hardware Accelerators:

    - Move engines

    - Image, video, and audio codecs

    - Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware

    - Cryptography engines for encryption and decryption, and hashing

Wonder what HDD always being present means? Also a little surprised their isn't any NFC to be found on the system.

    Next… Orbis.
Thought this was new thread worthy
I only trust VGleaks and DF and now we have significant info on both.

This is it guys, if you still can't see the pattern in all these leaks and rumours then idk what to say (where there's smoke there's fire). Bar the final minutes changes, this is your Durango

Yup, this has been the prevailing rumour for a while, but it definitely looks legit. Too much aditional info that fits. How people thought that mister x media rumour would work out power/heat/space wise i don't know!

I like the fact that they sorted the bandwidth out, 1.2tf is a bit underwhelming, but in reality you just can't read anything too much into a tf figure. I'm sure people will...

If this is true, which it looks like it is
The latest report from DF maybe correct also
Which I think you all know what that means

Edit, its means both 720 & PS4 are very close hardware wise with slight differences which will mix things up a bit

    @Mankind
Its powerful enough. Remember this is a console too so what you get out of it will be more then if it was in a PC

    8 cores @1.6GHZ...

why is the CPU on the back burner? many of the important stuff is still handled by it aren't they?

What is the speed of the PS3 Bluray? I find that incredibly slow loading up games and films?

Since they have 8 cores, the high clocks are not feasible for heat and power usage. Durango is using Jaguar cores and they don't go higher then that. It is built into the architecture to allow for energy saving by turning cores off and using least amount of power. MS doesn't want another RROD scenario.

Don't worry though, the real world gains in CPU performance will be significant even if the numbers seem underwhelming

    2x I think
Wait you think its slow at loading films?
Its seamless compared to my Samsung?!
Actually the Samsung in my livingroom sounds like a printer when loading lol

the animation system is still handled by the cpu if im not mistaken, and Sony has had a monopoly on games with good animation.

off the top of my head assassins creed comes to mind as the most prominent multiplatform to sport good animations, but that started out as a PS3 exclusive too.

all moot if it in any way possible to get animations onto the GPU though

Guys remember the CPU tends to take the backseat these days with the GPU handling most the work
Which is interesting considering the rumours of PS4 having a CPU+GPU combi with a main GPU too, unless thats changed
Forget what you know from last gen, things have changed

Like TGO said, now we have GPGPUs (General Purpose GPU) that are capable of many things that are otherwise done by the CPU, hence sony investing in the GPU this time around

indeed, particles are an example of a system that has been moved from the CPU to GPU. but what worries me is that the focus is on making a game like battleships (the movie). flashy and full of effects, but no substance. one of the things i love about uncharted is summed up by a quote from GT reviews "characters accounting for, and reacting to, every piece of geometry"

I haven't had any movie loading issues with my PS3. Seems to load movies like a DVD? Granted, I never timed it.

I really like how both consoles will be nearly the same in hardware. This means the OS will determine the best console!! I sure hope Sony has something amazing up their sleeve.

Sony maybe just have a 'good enough' approach. They'll supply new functions like cross game chat, apps and multitasking, but it will be MS that will try new things like live streaming and DVR stuff

Eh.. To me this seems like some kind of watered down summary of the prevailing rumor(s) behind Durango so far. Additionally, the current opinion out there (based on whatever scraps of information people are getting) seems to suggest that the PS4\Orbis will be substantially more robust of a system due to MS skimping on hardware in favor of bundling Kinect 2.0 in every box.

didn't think of that! HDMI should have higher data transfer rate right (correct me if I'm wrong).

If that's the case then MS will run away with it if priced similarly. I just have more faith in them when it comes to OS design (not neccessarily what's better, but rather how to wow/impress people)

These rumours are coming out thick and fast now, I hope there is something official around the corner. I'm getting sexcited!

The PS4 better have universal custom soundtracks.

In that department MS will win. But it does sound like both consoles will be very close hardware wise.
