via Gematsu.
Nintendo announced two The Legend of Zelda games for Wii U during its Nintendo Direct presentation today.
The first is a high-definition remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, due out this fall. The game promises upgraded graphics, tuned up performance, the ability to play off-TV on the Wii U GamePad, and of course, Miiverse compatibility.
Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma showed a series of images from the game before making the announcement.
“The reason I wanted to show you these pictures today is because our new Zelda looks like it is going to take some time to complete, so I wanted to report that while you’re waiting for that game to release, we intend to offer you The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker reborn on Wii U, to play in the meantime,” said Aonuma.
The second title is an all-new Zelda designed from the ground up for Wii U.
“Wii U launched at the end of last year, so I’d like to be able to talk soon about the new Zelda game we are preparing for you on Wii U, but since I have to wait until you can see actual game visuals to talk about it in detail, I will instead talk about the driving theme behind our development.
“Our mission in developing this new Zelda game for Wii U is quite plainly to rethink the conventions of Zelda. I’m referring to things such as the player is supposed to complete dungeons in a certain order. That you are supposed to play by yourself, the things that we’ve come to take for granted recently. We want to set aside these ‘conventions’, and get back to basics to create a newborn Zelda so players today can enjoy the real essence of the franchise.
“We had actually worked on this kind of challenge with Skyward Sword. But we weren’t able to put efforts in changing the linear structure of the game.
“Since it is a bigger development project, it will take some time before we can make a more concrete announcement.”

this is freaking great news, i knew about the totally new zelda game. Being built from the ground up and what it meant to have in it
But this New HD wind Waker is mind blowing and awesome... The HD detail is insane and it makes it a lot brighter

Looking forward to Wind Waker(might end up being the only option for those that don't like motion controls).
I am a little worried about the idea of making the new Zelda coop/multiplayer. I have a feeling motion controls (Wiimote+) is going to be the only control option again (for controlling Link) and that the second player will be the one using the WiiU GamePad(hope I am wrong).

Those look really really good. Interesting game to remaster, but I hated it. Probably my least favorite in the series, but it doesn't take away how awesome it looks.

Looks awesome, but I'd rather have an HD Twilight Princess than this.

I'm really happy to see an HD remake to Windewaker. It's my favorite 3D Zelda. They just need to seriously tone down on that bloom. This isn't 2006.

If Zelda U comes out with the exact same game mechanics of Ocarina of Time but utilizes the systems full potential, pure win! Ocarina of Time is arguably one of the greatest games of all time, and mainly because it kept the same Zelda formula. As in beat several dungeons, retrieve Master Sword, beat more dungeons, finally slay Ganon.
They need to go back to what made Zelda the juggernaut that it is, and stop trying to add in lacklustre new components (in my opinion). Just like that I went from NEVER buying a Wii U to buying one as soon as this game is released. I NEED IT.
7 years and counting!
