Why Work? : Couple in UK claims 17,680 in benefits

SKIVING couple told last night how they claim 17,680 a year in benefits and dont even bother looking for work because it would leave them worse off.

Danny Creamer, 21, and Gina Allan, 18, spend each day watching their 47in flatscreen TV and smoking 40 cigarettes between them in their comfy two-bedroom flat.

It is all funded by the taxpayer, yet the couple say they deserve sympathy because they are trapped.

They even claim they are entitled to their generous handouts because their hard-working parents have been paying tax for years.

The couple, who have a four-month-old daughter Tullulah-Rose, say they cant go out to work as they could not survive on less than their 1,473-a-month benefits.

The pair left school with no qualifications, and say there is no point looking for jobs because they will never be able to earn as much as they get in handouts.

Gina admits: We could easily get a job but why would we want to work we would be worse off.

Dannys father, 46, even offered him a job with his bowling alley servicing company but could not pay him enough.

Dannys mum, 45, works as a carer, while Ginas mum, 46, is a teacher and her dad, 53, is a manager with a security company.

Yet their parents work ethic has not rubbed off on Danny and Gina. Instead, they claim they are entitled to benefits because of their parents tax contributions and even complain they should be given MORE.

Gina, flaunting fake tan and perfectly manicured nails, said: I dont see that were living off the taxpayers, were entitled to the money our parents paid all their lives.

Theyve worked so hard since they left school and Im sure theyd rather it went to us than see us struggle. They pay a lot of tax, and although theyd rather we werent in this situation and one of us had a job, they understand why we are where we are. We cant help it, were stuck like it.

Danny, who quit his job as a supermarket shelf-stacker after eight months, admitted: I could easily go and work for my dad. Hes got a job for me, but could only afford to pay for my travel and accommodation because Id be going around the country.

After that he wouldnt be able to afford to pay me a wage, so Id be worse off.

The same would happen if I was to work somewhere like a supermarket. If I was earning less than 26,000 a year, there wouldnt be any point. Id be no better off. Who in their right mind would do that? The pair spoke after we revealed last Sunday that Lithuanian Natalija Belova, 33, branded Britain a soft touch for giving her 14,408 annual benefits. Mum-of-one Belova told how she lives a life of luxury in Watford, Herts, thanks to our strange system, adding: I am not going to work like a dog on minimum wage.

And yesterday Gina agreed. She said: The only way wed ever be better off is by both working. But then childcare would probably be one of our wages gone, and put us back in a more difficult position.

We dont feel ashamed for being on benefits. Neither of us have the slightest bit of guilt towards the taxpayers as both of our parents have been paying into the tax system for the last 30 years.

So we are just getting back our parents huge contributions. My dad earns 65,000 a year so hes paid more than his fair share of tax, so I dont see what the problem is. The fault lies with the system, not us. Theres just no incentive to find work when weve got a better lifestyle than if we were to go out and work for 35-40 hours every week. Why would we give this up?

The couple, who live in Hants, receive 340 a week, made up of 150 housing benefit, 60 child tax credit, 20 child benefit and 110 in Job Seekers Allowance. They pay just 25 towards their spacious 625-a-month home.

Their lounge is dominated by the huge TV and a leather sofa. A laptop and Tullulah-Roses toys are scattered around the room.

The couples monthly outgoings are 240 on food, 40 phone bill for their shared Nokia and an 80 payment towards their TV. They spend the same on tobacco as they do on their daughters milk and nappies.

The pair, who want another child, say they would need to earn at least 2,200 a month before tax to make working worth their while.

Danny said: Weve thought about a lot of things we wouldnt normally have considered. Gina looked up escorting and saw you can make 110 an hour, but we decided we wouldnt go down that route.

"We simply want the best for our daughter, which means even shoplifting becomes a temptation. Wed never do it, but being in this situation and feeling trapped changes you.

We would work, but its just not worth our while because without qualifications well only earn about 14,000 a year. Thats a lot less than what we get now. We need more money so we can maintain the way we live now but have a few extras, like holidays.

"People dont understand were actually stuck on benefits. In fact, we feel trapped. Danny and Gina thought about going to college, but could not decide which course to take.

Gina said: We have discussed getting more qualifications but just thought theres no point when we dont know what we want to do in the future. We wouldnt know where to start.

The couple are adamant that whatever they do in future, they want to enjoy the same luxuries as now. Gina said: We spend 40 a month on clothes for Tullulah-Rose. Its important she looks nice.

We like a takeaway too, Why shouldnt we? It isnt like Im some scrounging single mum trying to cash in. Its silly to think Id actually be better off financially if Danny walked out on me and my daughter than if one of us got a job.

Anyone else would do exactly the same if they were in our shoes. Its actually really hard for us. Were in a lose-lose situation here.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage.../Why-work.html

Unbelievable, it makes me sick they'd consider shoplifting with the money they get
But I guess it ain't their fault, the government shouldn't allow it.

    The ****.

They can't decide a course to do? They deserve tax payers money as their parents have been working hard for 30 years? Holy ****

This is some scandelous bs, and yeah **** is gonna hit the fan when job seekers stop giving them an allowance since they aren't even looking for work. Working part time and studying would be the way to go to secure a decent enough future because you can't live like this. I don't see how they think they are trapped when they have numerous options

Yes, this sort of thing is disgraceful.

Support should be limited to people who are unable to work, studying/training, and those who are seeking employment - providing any claimant belonging to these groups do not infringe on the rights of others (we currently have a case of an Islamic jihadist (Hamza) claiming (and receiving) state support for legal fees etc).

If job seekers refuse a job offer, they should lose their support. If there are jobs available and they do not apply, they should lose their support. But this won't happen, because our politicians don't have the balls, unlike Thatcher in her day, to say 'let them starve' if they refuse to work.

Then of course we have child benefit. Why the hell are we paying people for popping out children? If you can't afford to bring up a child, don't bloody have one.

Our benefit system is not fit for purpose.

These sound like a couple of layabout scroungers.

A few years ago the powers that be were thinking of introducing a congestion charge for MAnchester but it was voted against massively my dad worked it out that if it was introduced he would be no worse off not working than going to work spending about 70 just on getting to and from work.

Guys don't blame the people, blame the system. Its absolutely true.

A couple of years back I took a gap year and signed up on the dole, a couple of months of applying for simple shop jobs made me come to this conclusion.

    1. I had more qualifications than most of the people applying for those jobs yet I wasn't even getting a call back. (Too many people, not enough jobs).
    2. Had I actually gotten the job I would've been earning a lot less that if I just stayed on the dole.

So I just decided not to bother, it was a year out for me..I could use it to apply for jobs or to actually do something worthwhile.
    Trophy-licious!

Its a bit depressing, I mean I work 7 days a week shift work
Yes its only 9 hours a day, sometimes less but I ain't on minimum wage and I don't even get that
900 max after reductions and thats me constantly being at work
So when I hear this or people on benefits going on holiday when I can't afford too it drives me mad, and yes its the government
I don't begrudge people living well, but I should be living better if I work
And thats why the system is ****ed

These guys were on This Morning (U.K. TV show, covers all sorts of stuff in the news, cooking, competitions, etc) and you could tell how appalled hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were over this, but they managed to keep their cool and quiz the couple.

Anyway, as people have said, this is so messed up. However, this is the sad state of Britain right now, where a lot of lazy types revert to 'Well, if i'm being paid more on the dole, why bother working?' And the system allows it, unfortunately.

I earn less than these guys per year as a games journalist, but I can't even conceive of the idea of me sponging off the state and not working just to earn more. I love my job.

It's sad, but true! They really need to put a lot more rules when you get welfare, etc. so that it only last x amount of time and if you are caught wasting money on alcohol or tobacco you lose your benefits, and random drug tests wouldn't hurt either...it is suppose to be there for help people who can't feed their family, but there are always the ones who abuse it...

A few years ago I walked into my local job centre and there was a big queue but also this irate guy shouting at the job centre employees for being useless lazzy incompetants, turns out the reason why the queue was so long is because one of the women was on the blower to her friend as though she is at home.
He was fuming and rightly so she is there to work and help but thought its better use of her time to waffle nonsense.
