This is starting to be like Presidential Eleictions all over again. Wait until the PS4 release, then they're already talking about the PlayStation 5.

I may be wrong and please correct me if I am but are the architecture of both of MS and sony next gen consoles similar??

nothing really new here (again), except 1 sku, HDD size and a bandwidth downgrade that was already leaked on gaf.
apparently the 8rops is a 'mistake', or phrased incorrectly, and the 14+4 CUs means that 4 are reserved for something that noone seems to understand.Got YLOD? In the UK? I'll buy it off you.

Eh.. In terms of technology being used the rumors say they are definitely similar. But in performance? No. There is a substantial gap between the two in Orbis' favor.

Meh. All rumors. I seriously doubt that MS is going to release a significantly weaker console than Sony. Sounds like fanboy fantasy to me. I'll wait for official word from both companies. I cant see MS shooting themselves in the foot like that unless they were going to go the total Wii route.

Rad this is like the 3rd source with the same specs, 360 guys were waiting to hear from VGleaks because they didn't believe the Orbis specs and you've just repeated the exact same thing what was said 2 weeks ago, sounds more like a fanboy nightmare to me.
don't know why, MS only ever had one powerful console & that was released 24 months after the PS2 so the Xbox wasn't really powerful considering.

lol What? Xbox was way more powerful than PS2 and 360 is on par with PS3 so what do you mean MS only had one powerful console? By that logic Sony only ever had one powerful console as well. Ridiculous. And I'm not saying its impossible PS4 will be more powerful but its just kind of hard for me to picture after seeing how close the two HD consoles are this gen. Really not a big deal to me anyway because I've already been heavily leaning towards going PS4 only next gen anyway.

Whenever someone says orbis will be more powerful, MS fans say "well durango haz the secret sauce" referring to the 4 special hardware blocks (two of which are used to kinect voice and video encoding). Now if the 2 blocks and the 32mb ESRAM can bridge the gap in computing power and bandwidth remains to be seen

The new term is 'Wizard Jizz' as called by the gaffers
There's an update to the GPU details
UPDATE: some people are confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it:
Each CU contains dedicated:
- ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle)
- Texture Unit
- L1 data cache
- Local data share (LDS)
About 14 + 4 balance:
- 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute
- Minor boost if used for rendering
Dual Shader Engines:
- 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s
18 Texture units
- 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s
- Can utilize full memory bandwith
8 Render backends:
- 32 color ops/cycle
- 128 depth ops/cycle
- Can utilize full memory bandwith

Impressive specs if true. Nobody knows what each console will have or which will be more powerful. It the end it won't even matter what's inside. Its how they use it.

Why not?
It's not like they're just shaving off $$$. Rumor is the current plan is to include Kinect 2.0 in every box. That cost has to come from somewhere, and unless they're going to charge a higher cost they're going to need to cut cost of each unit.
Possibly, MS is banking on more features out of the box like possible constant skype video chat in game, Kinect 2.0 features, DVR, and other stuff. This is probably a big reason why they put in so much RAM into the box and then reserved a ton of it for non-gaming tasks (3GB of the 8GB total).
And why the rumors peg the GPU as being slightly weaker, and having 1-2CPU cores reserved all the time for the OS.
So they might not put out the 'best' looking games, but they can bank on the differences not being night and day, developers hitting the lowest common denominator, and their box having the most amount of features the second you plug it in.
Don't get me wrong, I see the allure and the point there. But I'd rather have a more robust gaming box that can do most of what I want it to (Blu-Ray, Netflix, various apps) then a weaker one that has a stronger focus on multimedia. But I'm one guy, and admittedly I'm a rare bird in that I'm a tech enthusiast.
Kinect does not interest me. Maybe Kinect 2.0 will, but I have my doubts. If anything I'd get Kinect and plug it into my PC and use some of the sick ass mods the PC crowd has made for it.Last edited by Vulgotha; 01-28-2013 at 21:32.

Yeah I'm not interested in Kinect either. I too would rather have a more robust gaming box plus free online so thats why I'm leaning towards PS4 heavily. And yeah like I've said before it will be Sony 1st party developers that will really make PS4 stretch its legs. Most 3rd party will strive for console parity. But alot of the other stuff youre saying is pure speculation. Sorry but until I hear from Sony and MS I just dont see MS being dumb enough to release a gimped console next gen after making a console on par with PS3 this gen and way more powerful than PS2 last gen. Just doesn't make any sense.

To be honest I do kinda see MS shooting themselves in the foot with all those features
Why?
My TV already does that while I'm on my PS3
Facebook, Skype, Netflix, DVR...I can even watch TV or be on Facebook at the same time on the same screen while playing COD
TV's are the center peace of the living room
Blu-ray players and game consoles are extras, a extension, something that can't be done or done well on today's TV's
So if MS concentrates on something we already have built-in the thing they need there box plug into...... Well I guess it depends on the customer
I want gaming first, my TV does the rest and I'm sure it being secondary will be just as good

MOOORRRE f'n rumors. I'm losing it.No thank you. I'll be gaming DRM free on a stronger console for $100 cheaper instead
Sony trolled MS. PS4 fans didn't do it. We just laughed at MS and anyone getting mad. $399 FTW!
