why u need to do that?


you having problems with the ps3 put it in safe mode
turn off ur ps3 and do this

1. Touch and hold the Power button (do not remove your finger from the button). You will hear the first beep, meaning the PlayStation 3 is powering on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).

Here is what I would do.

1. Download the firmware and place it on a USB stick. Be sure to use the proper folders. PS3>UPDATE
US Firmware 4.31

2. Access the PS3 recovery menu.

3. Try installing firmware from here by choosing option #6.

Create a folder on your USB stick called PS3. Then in that folder, create another folder called UPDATE. Then drop the firmware in that folder. Always plug the USB stick in the usb port furthest to the right while facing the front of the PS3.

So once the download finished It saved on my local disk. I went it to my USB and made a file called PS3 and then i double clicked and went it that folder. I then made a file called UPDATE. I went back in the local disk and then i click copy on the firmware. I went into the UPDATE folder and then I clicked paste. It saved, then i went to the last option and It's still saying the same thing.

What is the name of the update file you put in the UPDATE folder? It should say "PS3UPDAT.PUP"

You may need to pull the USB stick out and plug it back in a few times to get the PS3 to find the update.

No quotation marks. Go back in to Recovery Menu and keep trying until it finds the update.

Well, I just a made a video but now I can't upload because I can't find the cord.

Formatting the hard drive will not solve the problem. The PS3 is not even seeing the update on the USB stick. If it was a hard drive issue, the update would fail at some point during the installation process.

Well, see I did that. Someone in my house cut my ps3 during the process. So now I can only enter the system recovery mode.

1. Restore Default Settings - Performs the same operations as [Restore Default Settings] on the XMB, and also deletes Sony Entertainment Network account information from the system.

3. Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information.
   This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
4. Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step.
   This will reformat the hard drive on the PlayStation 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
5. System Update - Updates the PS3 system software. This can only be done with an update file already saved on external storage media, such as a USB drive.

LOL I don't think I was actually gonna do that. When I was younger, I brought a game back and tried to get another. It didn't turn out as hoped.
