http://gamingbolt.com/ps-plus-will-c...n-here-to-stayThis is kind of obvious, but if you end up buying a 12 month PS Plus subscription, you also get 3 months free, so the question now is that this will overlap with next generation where Sony’s PS3 successor will be most likely be released.
Naturally, a small doubt exists whether the service will carry over to the next gen or not. On the recent PS Blog post’s comments section, a fan asked, “Any word on whether we should have any concern about PS+ carrying over to the next gen ? If I renew now and get the 3 extra months, thats 15 months of Plus goodness … but will it be used next gen?”
To this, Morgan Haro, PSN community manager, replied: “PS Plus is here to stay, so you can take advantage of the offer with confidence.”
So there you go, the service will be offered by Sony next gen as well, but they could start charging for online play then you would wish they didn’t… I kid!
Hmmm...Subscription service that offers you free reign on gaming content + cloud gaming service capable of streaming your entire catalogue of games...
Nope, I can't see where Sony's going with this.

I wonder if it would really be so bad if Sony started charging people for online play, if it means they could provide a better service with PSN?

I think SONY will leave online play free, its a big incentive BUT have other services under the pay wall of PS plus ( like 4 on demand, other streaming apps etc...)
If SONY gets similar, or close to, the offers STEAM offers during sales then it will be an instant winner.

If Sony can get their online service running as fast and smooth as Microsofts, I would gladly pay for online service.

Sounds like PS4 will play ps3 games as transfer all digital content easily then. Good news. I don't have many PSN games but good to know the ps4 will jut continue on from the current store and offerings.
Ill still always buy my games physically and not have them tied to a subscription but that's a personal choice.
Bring on jan 20th!

Yeah if the PS4 does work with PS3 digital and retail games, then maaaaaan that's some good shit. Not that I'd ever get rid of my PS3 but still. I've been a plus subscriber for ages and got a huge backlog of plus games

Almost guarenteed. Its not a gimmick anymore and the fact they took the time to add it a couple years into the systems life, and on the Vita, means they will keep it around.
The better question is when will they trophy up all the PS1/2 classics. Sony needs to tell those companies to add them cause the trophy culture is only growing and it is a guarantee people will re-buy games they already own just to get the trophies.

I don't see how your getting that from this article. Just because PS+ will continue with PS4, does not mean your PS3 content will work on the PS4. Its the same with the Vita. Your PS+ subscription works on the Vita, but that doesn't mean your PS3 content will work on the Vita.

Not comparable considering there isn't a PC network like PSN/LIVE not to mention that there are too many online Workarounds for there to ever be a True PC network
yes SONY charging for online Gaming would be bad for the Consumer but it would be WIN/WIN for Sony as they know how many Consoles MS have sold so far along with a LIVE account % tied to Console sales so plus with the Reports of Sony losing $Millions/Billions over the Fiscal years online subscription fee's could be re-invested into the playstation Brand instead of going into their own pockets for new features ETC.
Just my 2 cents of course.
