Two discs for the singleplayer. Must be big. Disc swapping begins when chapter 10 begins.

Why is it still news worthy when a game is multi disk? Doesnt mean the game is good, or even long. Isnt most space took up by cutscenes and audio?

I'm not too bothered by disc swap, a lot of my old games on ps1 had mutiple discs, but yeah that does seem out dated. It's not a big deal to take a few seconds to change discs but I have lost or damaged a disc for whatever reason a couple times before and screwed up my whole game that way. It's easier to deal with just a single cartridge or disc and digital's starting to grow on me too.

I just bought it for the PS3. No disc swapping.

i think you've taken his comment the wrong way.
i completely agree with him. i don't think it should be newsworthy. who really cares about changing a disc? i'm more bothered by silly installs before playing a game.
its not a slight on you, more an observation of the original article.Got YLOD? In the UK? I'll buy it off you.

Not surprised since Dead Space 2 on the Xbox 360 was already 2 discs.

Just goes to show that DVD is coming to the end of its useful life for AAA game delivery, its not past it yet but soon will be. It happened to CDs in the early 2000s I never understood why Unreal 2004 came on 6 CDs by the tiem it released DVD ROM were standard on new PCs and were cheap to buy.

How does that even make sense...
Installs before games are one time downloads, once done its over. I'm sure these installs are not even that large.
2 disks means the following happens:
1) you can insert the 2nd/3rd disk and install the content, meaning you will only ever need to use 1 disk BUT this is just as bad, if not worse, than installs before playing a game as you have to still wait and let the content be downloaded.
2) swap disks during certain parts of a game ( half way through), which can happen as many times as you play the game, replay the game 3 times, have to keep doing it basically. This might not be annoying to some, but to me can get frustrating.
Unless I am totally missing the point of 2 disks or something :P

Swapping discs doesn't bother me. I do it every time I want to play another disc game anyway.

well, no offense :P, but you either know, or you don't.
the fact of the matter is some of these installs are large, and can take a decent amount of time.
am i not allowed to find that annoying when i've got a new game i want to play? i'd rather get up 6 or so hours into a game and swap discs.
its not really worse though. when i got forza i played it straight away. i then install the car packs from the second disk about an hour later, when i had a break. the same with halo 4 multiplayer. i got my fix, then installed the multiplayer. no problem. but having to wait to even start playing a game is irritating for me. can you not appreciate the difference?2 disks means the following happens:

i just haven't found it an issue at all really. a bit of a pain, but a pain that's gone in under 30 seconds. installs are infuriating on the ps3. an its more general than mandatory game installs. the 360 smokes it in terms of updates and installs. i barely notice that the 360 installs updates. the ps3 gets to 100% download, and i'm all ready to play, and then the fucking thing takes 10 further minutes to installllllllllllll. FUCK!2) swap disks during certain parts of a game ( half way through), which can happen as many times as you play the game, replay the game 3 times, have to keep doing it basically. i'm really hoping its addressed next gen. the same thing happens with the psn downloads. the software really does get confused, and spends most of its life saying "preparing", when you want to background download. its a similar problem that i have a feeling is related - poor OS or limited OS ram perhaps?

You're saying switching discs is the same as a one time install which is an inconvenience only the first time you place the disc inside?
What are you guys arguing? which one is worse?
Both are an inconvenience. The difference being, the other is one-time. Regardless, you have to make your own choice based on what annoys you more.Last edited by sainraja; 02-08-2013 at 20:35.

I agree the PS3 installs are bad, hope they do improve this.
I have not played on the ps3 for a long time (well, consoles) so was not sure how the game pre install was.
Lets hope TLOU does not have it :P
PC gaming, too good.

Installs do suck but if I had a choice on the PS3, I would do it for almost 100% of the games that I regularly play.
And for that matter, yes I do agree it's pointless to point out every time there's a multi-disc game on the 360...because you can install it and a lot of games are mult-disc.

Yea, that's my biggest gripe with the PS3, the installations...I've skipped a lot of demos because I didn't want to install. I've deleted games AFTER downloading them because I didn't feel like installing them.
If you only have a half hour to an hour to kill within a day, these installs start to matter.
