How many PS3s SOLD, not shipped

How many PS3s has Sony sold, not shipped? Is the 70 million what was sold or what was shipped? Which one passed the Xbox 360, sold or shipped? By the way, why is the number shipped important?

70 million was the last official numbers we had. Recent reports have the ps3 and ps2 figures combined so we actually don't know. We'll likely hear about how many ps3's have been sold on Feb 20th.

Sony is more accurate with the sales number as Microsoft lies and fools people for media only. PS3 has sold around 70 million units and since than we haven't heard much about it.

You have a very poor grip on reality. Fanboy fantasy is not a pretty thing.

Regardless of who the manufacturer is, there are usually around 2 million systems floating around on store shelves and warehouses, sitting on container ships or in the back of cargo trucks world-wide. Retailers do not order a lot more systems than they need to keep supplies steady, and manufacturers cannot ship systems that haven't been ordered by retailers. In todays world of "just in time shipping" there is little in the way of built up reserve stock.

Eh? Doesn't Sony post numbers with ps2 and ps3 combined? That sounds like their fooling people. At least Microsoft post a reliable figure of just Xbox 360s sold. None of this combined nonsense.

Yes, you do.

Now prove me wrong and show me your unequivocal proof that MS has somehow been lying or fooling people about the number of consoles it has shipped...

And in return I will show you the Sony investor statements in 2007 that specifically state that up to that point they had been counting consoles that had been manufactured but were sitting around in their own warehouses as shipped consoles, and then I will show you where last year Sony started combining PS2 and PS3 sales together rather than listing them separately like they had been.

So, let's see that proof of your claims and find out who is really being fooled here.

Yeah that is true. Just like when Sony reports active PSN membership numbers they combine accounts from PS3, PSP and Vita. And of course you know both Sony and MS count dupe accounts.

Despite the fact that they have done this for the past fiscal year (I think), they aint foolin' anybody

I honestly think it's because the Vita sales are so bad they lump those with the PSP, and because of that they feel they have to do the same with PS3 to avoid awkwardness. Wasn't PS3 the best selling console of last year?

Nobody knows the actual number sold. All Sony know is how many are shipped out to stores. From that moment on it's up to the stores to sell them to make money as they've already paid Sony for the systems.

The 70 million sales number was a solid sell through count. It's likely that Sony has sold upwards of 75 million PS3s at this point though. We haven't had an update in awhile.

Either way the PS3 passed the 360 in worldwide sales.

I don't see why people are moaning about the PSN subscriptions. They purely state how many accounts there are. They don't claim all the accounts are made on PS3.

Why don't you complain about Microsoft as well? A load of Xbox LIVE accounts will have been made on the original Xbox and on Windows.

Shipped = Sold to retailers. Nobody can track every consumer sale, so shipped numbers ARE sold numbers.
