http://www.vgleaks.com/orbis-dual-camera-whats-this/When we unveiled Orbis, an enigmatic device called “Dual Camera” was also listed within the info.
“Dual Camera” appears to be an evolutioned HD Eyetoy instead of a Kinect device, based on the features offered right now.
It contains a pair of wide-angle cameras. Each camera offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (720p).
Sound is processed by a 4 microphone array working at 48 Khz.
The device can perform some non gaming tasks such as:
- Recognize the user and log in the system
- Video chat
In the gaming field it supports head and hand tracking as new game inputs. Currently it’s not clear if this device will support body tracking in the future as Kinect but it’s almost sure that it will be bundled with every Orbis system.

VGleaks: Orbis Dual Camera. What’s this?
No thank you. I'll be gaming DRM free on a stronger console for $100 cheaper instead
Sony trolled MS. PS4 fans didn't do it. We just laughed at MS and anyone getting mad. $399 FTW!

Not overly thrilled about this...it will just drive the system price up for stuff that doesn't necessarily need to be there...

I'm not too interested in this either. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to kinect 2.

If this is true, then I'll definitely be waiting for a price drop or two a couple years after launch. As MonkeyClaw said, this will only increase cost for a pretty useless reason in my opinion.

Not interested. Kinda like AR cards for the vita, neat little feature, very little use for it.

If this is bundled with every system and not a dedicated headset then SONY need to sort their priorities.

As long as it is just a peripheral, I'm cool.
Thoroughly enjoying my PS+ membership.

I would much rather have a 2nd controller then having that camera, I have zero interest in having any type of PS Eye/Kinect type system in the next gen system...if they leave it as a peripheral like Lefein said then I am cool with it as well, just don't force that on the user...

Yup I can definitely see there being a barebones sku at 399 with just the consle and controller. Maybe a 450 or 500 sku with the camera and like... a camera based game or some shit. Hmph.

Not good. I'm not interested in Kinect 2 and I'm not interested in this either. This better not be built in or come with the PS4 because its just going to drive up the cost of the console for something that I dont even want.

If true, it might be because they want to make games that adapt or react to how we respond to the in-game content.
Just like the biometric controller, our facial expressions and reactions to content might change what is happening in the game.
To get that to happen, everyone will need to have the new eye-toy, it would need to be universal in order for developers to justify the cost. Even then, when the six axis came out not many developers were on board.
This concept makes more sense to me though, I can see it making games more immersive, or more of a pain in the ass in the hands of certain developers.
We will see!

Stereo cameras would allow the Move ball to be much smaller with higher accuracy. When you can get a $49 cell phone with a camera these days, it shows the price of a video camera is dirt cheap plus the size of cameras now are about the size of a pinky fingernail (there are some not much bigger than a grain of salt but those tend to be more expensive and for other uses). It seems highly likely Sony will want to incorporate an eyetoy capability without it being an add-on peripheral. It is easy to see it being in a small dock in the case, either left there or popped out for placement. Use it if you want, don't if you don't. The only thing I would ask for is a small mechanical shade to cover the lenses if it isn't being used.

Hopefully it will be a bundle option that isn't fully integrated into most games. Catering to the casuals is fine but don't make the hardcore crowd suffer because of it.Like the rumors that kinect is going to be a big part of the 720. Motion controllers were ok for a minute but I'm completely over it.

Not ok with this. I really hope this is just a peripheral available at launch.. If it is bundled in every box I most sincerely hope they don't jack up the Orbis OS resources to have this thing "usable 24/7" while in-game. Unless this fits within the already specified 512MB OS amount...
I'm also a little bit miffed at the idea that this may have resulted in Orbis being a bit weaker than it could have been without the camera pre-packaged with every unit (and thus eating into budget constraints).

The article doesn't mention the framerate. I'm betting on it being 120fps for each camera because Sony's camera guy said that was more important for capturing data. The comments on the site are laughable. The tech company that created kinect talked with Sony before it went to Microsoft.
-

I doubt it'll be part of the entry-level sku, sony's smart enough to know that it's the core crowd that'll stand out in the cold at midnight to get a "launch" console. But if they manage a decent camera for the ps4 (720p 120 fps) then Move games will benefit exponentially from the improved accuracy, icing on the cake would be, if ps4 is compatible with the existing Move controllers.
