via VG247.Sony CFO Masaru Kato told investors during a call discussing the firm’s Q3 2012 results that it needs to do “a better job in promoting” Vita.
The executive said one of the ways to improve profitability for the handheld is to attract more third-party developers interested in creating “more attractive software.”
“In terms of profitability, we have to do a better job in promoting the PlayStation Vita mobile product,” said Kato. “How do we do that? Well, gaming business software is the name of the game. So as a fundamental measure, we are putting all — a lot of resources, not just first party, but also asking third parties to put out more attractive software.
“That’s the basics. The other thing, well, marketing, pricing of the product, et cetera, I cannot talk about pricing of this platform, but those are the things that we are looking into to improve our profitability in the mobile handheld gaming business.”
Kato also touched on the longevity of PS3, which he feels in its sixth year “still has a long life” and Sony is no longer losing money on the system.
“There are discussions about the next platform, I cannot dwell on that at all at the moment,” he said. “But in any case, we have a lot of business in PS3. Now to give you an indication of how, well, stable this business is, although we have reduced forecast on many of our product lines from television, digital still cameras and, et cetera, but mobile phones and home game devices, we have not changed the forecast on these for this fiscal year.
“I hope will give an indication of our confidence in this platform going forward.”
Sony is expected to reveal the next PlayStation console during an event in New York City week after next.

I honestly don't get the disconnect that Sony has when it comes to advertising. They are, outside of the Butler ads, horrible at anything revolving around promoting a gaming product.
Microsoft has the coolest stuff in the whole industry, especially with the Halo series. Sony just keeps failing.
They need to hire people with vision. And balls.
Hire me Sony.

better job at promoting it yes, i havent seen a single commercial for the system in the last 4 months. With MLB 13 coming out n less than 30 days i expect to see something, but that alone wont help it. Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush are good games, as is AC: Liberation. But there was zero advertising for that game. I know people who owned a Vita that hadnt heard of liberation until a month after it was released. Hopefully this new advertising company Sony partnered with actually advertises some games.

Oh no Sony you don't , Just give us a lot of great games.
Many months have passed since its launch date. But I still can't find a good reason to buy this handheld.

The issue isn't just promotion because if you don't have a compelling product, no one will buy it regardless. Sony need to get studios making games for it, first and third party, simple as that.

So true! I've known about the PS Vita since its release, but never considered buying it because there weren't any games I really wanted. I eventually got it as a gift and I do like it, but would really enjoy a larger game selection.
This too. I never had a problem with the price of the Vita, but the price of the memory cards are too much for me. I'll stick to buying physical copies of the games for now (especially since the DL version is usually the same price, which really makes it cost more if you include the price of the memory stick).

The memory card is all that is screwing them an SD mico card would have been better, but just make a 8gig standard card with the system and drop the price $20 bucks and the Vita will start selling, hell the Vita is selling more then the WiiU
