I think this past gen was more about Sony's frick ups more than Microsoft actually gaining ground. The price of the ps3, releasing a year later, making the console hard to develop for etc. It hurt'em big time.
I wouldn't hold my breath. This is a normal progression of things. Nintendo can't ever win back the user base it lost to Sony. Sony can't ever win back their user base that they lost to MS.

Of course, people will buy multiple consoles and that's what it will mostly come down to.
All of these consoles have carved a niche and will likely retain a good number of user base until they stop doing what these people like them for.

I'm not too bothered by it. I do like the sound of everything in one box but I know the PS3 can run hot at times so it's not a biggie. I think most likely both consoles will have a brick anyway.

From Digital Foundry. Sorry but no special sauce for you.

amazing how many people are clinging to this special sauce argument... this is like my third time i have to point out to other people.
Pity you cant read very well.
The article talks about "elsewhere" referring to other customs blocks helping the cpu.
The DME's are specifically designed for the GPU.

Games are like woman, what you might find attractive I might not, and none of us know if we really like them untill we have played around with them for a while.

If those measurements are in metric that would put it at 9.8 X 5.5 X 3.9 inches. That's just big enough to fit a disk in.

True. I know it's not realistic to win every one of them back, but they can win some back. It all comes down to the games. It's amazing with all of Sony's early frick ups with the PS3 that they're as close, in terms of sales, as they are with the 360. That lets you know there's still a big fanbase out there.

As long as they do well enough financially to have a PS5, PS6 etc. I'll be happy.

As someone else mentioned, I think it makes sense that it would be cm, not inches.

Honestly I think Sony has the most experience in the gaming business and I'm saying this even though Nintendo has been in the business much longer. Sony knows what people want and while they screwed up with the PS3 price point and the hardware, they still delivered the games, for the most part...better than the others.

Sony may drop out of its other product lines but the gaming division might be the only thing left that they will probably continue to do well. I don't even know what else they make money on anymore lol.

Yeah that was me. I just wanted to work it out in inches. That's about the size of the PS2 slim minus the height. On your other point. The PlayStation brand is the life force of Sony. I don't ever see that changing.

I agree. They just had that one screw up, and that's all it takes sometimes, with the PS3 that hurt them. Price point for the PS4 and games early on in its life cycle will be key. I think they've pretty much learned from the mistakes with the PS3 that they won't screw that up with the PS4.

They're already announcing first, so they got that going for them. And from the rumors we've heard, the console is easy to develop for too.

    I'm ready

    Well my PS Slim is roughly 29 x 29 x 5.

So in cubic centimeters, these measurements for the PS4 would be roughly 83% as big.

It would still be larger than the Gamecube was.

That would definitely explain why they code-named it Orbis. It's very elliptical. I think it looks cool, but I'd like to know how I can lay it flat. I never stand up my consoles.

I think it looks *almost* cool. Also looks very impractical. LIke you said you couldn't lie it flat. The disc slot doesn't look right either. Probably an 'artistic rendition'.
