It is fair to say that this gen has been all about sequel pumping and not taking many risk. We see this with the yearly COD, Assassin Creed, and other games they have 3 or more to their title this gen. With Killzone 4, Halo 5, PGR, and others being talked about for launch of next gen are doomed to see basically the same games we did this gen with little to no devs taking risk? The big risk takers of this gen has to be From Software and their Souls games. Other than that (and a hand full of others) we seem to be swamped with sequel after sequel, and many(not all) "new" ip just being a copy and paste of others with having little impact on market. The only game that comes to mind were the devs have said "we have a hit and a new ip on our hands" was Capcom with Dragons Dogma, and From Software with their Souls games, and Bioware with Dragon Age and Mass effect(feel free to post others that I am unaware of, Gears has fallen into the sequel pumping with those devs not looking past just pumping them out). So do you guys think we will see new ips that make a big impact next gen or are we doomed to celebrate the release of Uncharted 7, COD8909098, gears of War 45, God of War:ahtoh 78, Halo 78 etc. How long can these games continue until fatigue sets in and gamers want more?

I'm curious to hear what people do want to see. New IPs obviously but what? Uncharted like action game that aren't Uncharted? Ninja games? I dunno just...what? Setting, characters, gameplay mechanics.
I'd like to see more platformers. That's where are started with gaming and they have pretty much disappeared. The climbing portions of AC and Uncharted I liked because of my fondness for platformers. I enjoy the climbing, jumping and timing it right so you can move forward.

I would love MORE open world games on the level of GTA but with a difference ( different time period etc)

I think we will see some new IPs next gen that will really take off. After all, games like Uncharted, Gears, or Assassin's Creed were new IPs this gen. I think it's safe to say some company will come out with a game that bucks the status quo of sequels.
If I had to guess what type of game? Either action, FPS, or a WRPG. Three solid areas where we saw the biggest hits this gen.
During the PS2 era looking onwards to PS3, I never would've thought of games outside of MGS, GTA, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, or Gran Turismo. Those would've been the big titles to me. I didn't expect Uncharted, Killzone, Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect. Would've never guessed CoD becoming the king of shooters, either.
Where I think all the big IPs this generation will find a sequel or two on next gen systems, there will be new titles that just change the game.

I have no problem with sequels as long as they are good. I like what the new Bioshock is shaping up to be and Assassin's Creed III is good as well. GTA V will be a worthy successor too. I'm looking forward to possible sequels to Red Dead Redemption and hopefully Dante's Inferno. Uncharted 2 was fun but more of the same of the first one. I didn't even bother with 3. Halo Reach was pretty bad but I liked 4.
Just because a new IP is released doesn't mean that's a good thing and sequels aren't always bad. Just like a ton of exclusives is meaningless unless many of them are good. I'd rather have a few quality exclusives than a bunch exclusives that are a mixed bag.I don't need no stinkin' signature!

i'll play a game quite often until i get bored with it or reach the end. so i look forward to the sequels of games i like.
at the same time there was plenty new IP this gen to keep me happy and i hope that those new IP (like Dishonoured), lead to more sequels.
i'm sure there will be enough of both on nextgen to keep me happy.

I don't have a problem with sequels as long as the games are still good. I'd rather have a good sequel than a shit new IP

IMO no I don't believe so, we may have to put up with a couple of sequels for the launch window just to have franchises for these systems that Sony/Microsoft knows the already loyal fanbase's will buy, and that new comers will want to play off of word of mouth.
I believe Sony's Studios will definitely have new Ip's, reboots, and re-reveals(8 days comeback to us).
-Guerrilla is already known to be working on a new Ip(most likely for next-gen.)
-I believe with the ending of Infamous 2 and probably a lil' fatigue Sucker Punch has a new Ip coming
- And as much as I love Drake as the next gamer I'm hoping for Naughty Dog Uncharted team to start a new series let the Uncharted Trioligy on Home consoles go down as the king of PS3, no more sequels.(Sony's other studious can give us Vita Uncharted's if they want)
- Seeing that Evolution Studios last 2 motorstorms didn't sell of expectations with the new people they got from the wipeout and Bizarre team, they probably will(and should) make a great new racing game that will not be called Motorstorm
Also remember when some studios first started complaining that they think we need next gen because the beginning of a new gen of systems is always the best time to bring out new Ip's well that says it all right?
Now after these first 2-3 years of new Ip's then, yes we may end up with loads of sequels of the new-gen games.Ride or die Sony(Playstation) supporter since 12/25/1997

For the first few years we will see some new IP, but eventually they will start pumping out sequels like they do now. If you think about it, thats how its been for two gens - just during the PS2 days there was a lot more new IPs being produced.
