This new patent which was filed in 2012, is about something called the ‘PlayStation Eyepad’.
It has the form factor of a tablet and can work in conjunction with camera that are actually in the device to generate 3D virtual buttons. You can use them as any other normal controller. It also features a touchpad, which the PS4 controller was rumoured to have.
Here’s the official description for it:
An input device for an entertainment device comprises a first main surface, one or more side edges, one or more motion sensors operable to generate motion data, and a wireless communicator for transmitting the motion data to the entertainment device, wherein an elongate illuminated region extends along some or all of one or more of the side edges; in addition the input device may comprise a first stereoscopic camera and a second stereoscopic camera having respective viewpoints located at opposing corners of a first area of the main surface, the field of view of each stereoscopic camera encompassing a first volume of space immediately above the first area, wherein the first and second stereoscopic cameras are operable to generate respective stereoscopic images, from which a first depth map and complementary second depth map may be generated for opposite sides of an object placed within the first volume of space.![]()

Don't see what the problem is tbh. Its a pad and Sony have used the Eye term for years.
Trophy-licious!

that huge touch pad would certainly alleviate the consoles lack of button problem.
i prefer physical buttons tbh, hopefully the actual design is more traditional than a tablet.

some detailed reviews of ZombiU state the "tablet" detection is very bad and the stress comes from danger coming from bad detection rather than good gameplay
I don't want that in a PS3 or PS4 game. Having my attention divided between 2 screens showing different things is just a bad idea and pathetic gameplay idea.

I don't know what "detection" it's talking about, but there is nothing wrong with the Gamepad. It's very responsive. The biggest gripe in the gameplay would be the cricket bat taking too long to kill a zombie. As it is now, it can take up to 8 or 9 hits sometimes. But it's a real survival horror game, and not from bad gameplay.
On topic, I'll laugh my ass off if Sony actually released this, even as an optional thing like move.
Thanks to THUGGEDOUT for the sig, The Black Wolf for the av.Life's too short to be sober! Drunk with power!
