I think the cycle will be decided by the economy.
To add to your post, every console company needs a balance between power and support. PS3 had the power but it lacked support...even though it had the most support, compared to PS2, it didn't.
Now with this architecture, you will have a steady flow of support from PC devs, which will affect its longevity in a positive way. So I think it can last a 10 years no issues.
Lasting doesn't always mean how much power is left but also how many games developers want to put out on...look at PS2/1.

Whoops, didn't catch that! Thanks!
Good point, I keep forgetting there are so many companies in the PC arena that don't touch console gaming currently, but with the architecture change we will be seeing a lot more coming over to this side as well and making games along with the PC counterparts.Last edited by MonkeyClaw; 02-21-2013 at 20:29.

Wouldn't you need some sort of BC for PSN content to work on the PS4?
The only way I could imagine it working is via Gakai/streaming...
And what a headache trying to keep every accounts details in terms of what you have purchased.
Not so much the games, but imagine trying to load up a version of Ass Creed with you extra content, vs non-dlc verison.
I can imagine PSN games might be made available via Gaikai, but not DLC.

I found it ironic how Sony went on about your PS4 getting to know you, integrating your PS4 with Facebook, always being connected, etc, and then the Sucker Punch guy came out with that dramatic introduction about corporations monitoring everyone and using your information for profit. lol

Best two parts of the night:
1. Square Enix guy announces that the director of Final Fantasy games will come out to announce a new Final Fantasy game. And that's literally all he did. Awesome.
2. Can't remember which company but they had there first speaker bring out 4 new people, 3 of those people stood there awkwardly while one said like two lines of info then they left. Awesome.
I lol'ed too hard.

1) Yep... lol.
2) I think the group of people was for Destiny. The guy talking looked as though that was his first time publicly speaking. Kept fidgeting his hands and standing with a slouch and like he had a pole up his arse. Was very awkward.
LOL... the first S-E guy looked like a FF character.

I didn't know you were a psychic.
Sorry but if you expect me to circlejerk to any console like others have, you will be disappointed.
In the 3 generations of console gaming I have participated in, this one has been the least fulfilling
So I don't have much of a reason to be enthusiastic about future console developments.
Hell so far their is only one next gen game that has piqued my interest.
Which is about the same as this time last generation.
So I don't have much of a reason to expect a change from the status quo currently.
