Will we have to pay for online gaming?

The leak says "most online features." That sounds like basic online play will still be free. The additional online features will most likely be under a revamped PS+ type optional service.

For the sake of preserving some leaks I'll address the current discussion in below:

I'm going to assume the quote of "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use implies that the free online we know on the PS3 will exist on the PS4. Most all new stuff will be subscription based, leaving basic online gaming, friends and Store access free.

The stuff with the PSEye, logging in from mobile devices, controlling your PS4 with a tablet, streaming PS3 games and others I expect to be on the subscription.

I just don't think even a revamped PSN could beat LIVE if were paid. Too many people are already on LIVE and so Sony needs to do something to bring some of them over before they start charging outright for online gaming. Tiers would maybe work but I think many would be hesitant. If there's a price they'll definitely drop it after they hype up the new features (that is, if they talk prices tomorrow).

The streaming is taken from their acquisition of Gaikai and a recent WSJ report that the new console would allow streaming of games, including PS3 ones.

The rest was from a Kotaku article today by an un-named source, who has previously been proven credible, giving numerous possible leaks.

Sony's well known for not being able to keep a secret, so since that info was leaked then it's likely true. I wouldn't get too hyped about it though just in case.

I like the idea of using tablet to control the PS4. I've always wanted to have the option on PS3 ever since I got a tablet. It is a nifty feature that Roku boxes have. I would like to have it since I've almost always got my tablet by my side.

I believe the trophies and all that stuff will still be free when you buy a PS3, the difference is, is the premium service is going to offer a lot more compared to playstation plus and it will offer a lot more compared to just online gaming and trophy support.

I was venturing over on NeoGAF - which I apparently still have an account with, hmm - and saw someone mention the new L2/R2 style so figured I'd post the picture. Shouldn't be anything too new, but I don't recall seeing them in the past pictures.

Also since the Kotaku leak was a dev then the price could be in question but the other stuff would likely be known so they could develop for features and what's standard with every console.

The controller actually looks better from that angle compared to the previous pictures (still needs refinement though). Anyway, triggers look better than before, though they are quite flat looking. The actual feel of how they work is more important to me though. I'm not a huge fan of the current "spongey" triggers.

No need to really think about it. At this point it is pretty much guaranteed to be the next PlayStation console.

Very doubtful. The way the article is worded using the words "most" and "features" leads me to believe that online gaming will still be free.

I think the price will end up being $399/$499. My guess is Kotaku was told the price of the PS4 in yen, then they just converted it to US to reach the prices they listed.

Well the DUALSHOCK3 is listed at 30 playable hours, via IGN and Yahoo Answers (I know...). I don't know if they're still using the same battery tech as 6-7 years ago but I'd assume there's a newer tech that works better.

I can't see the battery life changing drastically. Of course the Move controller only had 10 hours, so hopefully I'm not wrong. I could live with those numbers but something a little higher would be nice.

Yea, I keep reading everywhere about the number 4 and that it means death and it's superstitious, etc. I figured they'd still use it though. It would be weird to have a PlayStation that isn't numbered.
