The fact that Sony impressed Carmack and Crytek, shows that they pulled off something big. Carmack and Crytek haven't been the biggest supporters of console gaming compared to PC, so it's definitely good to hear their positive feedback.

Yeah, I was quite shocked Crytek wasn't trolling the PS4 like they did consoles this entire gen. The dev I heard in a post reveal was actually excited about the PS4 not just oh it's better. They are some cocky bastards there.

He is probably referring to the 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM. This is a big question here. Nvidia just released the GTX Titan video card and it has 6GB GDDR5. The GTX Titan retail price is $999, and that is just for a video card. The GPU is probably about $500 of that price. So, how is Sony going to get GDDR5 in volume at a half or one-third the price it is now? They don't make RAM, so who is the supplier? This was the major surprise announcement and it may have been very recent. Who have they found that will be able to provide this volume in memory chips at such a reduced price, Samsung?

The GDDR5 I believe is customized for use in the video card, while the way Sony is using it in the PS4 is mainly for RAM, not GPU. Lets not forget that Nvidia is very expensive and while I have a high end GPU, I can say that that $999 is overpriced beyond belief but than again a lot of Nvidia and Intel are overpriced anyway. Nvidia brags about it's Cuda cores but for a gamer they are pointless and basically fluff. Since Sony with all out with AMD, AMD probably also said fuck it, we will give you one hell of a deal for this stuff. AMD wouldn't lose any money off of partnering up with Sony for GDDR5 RAM, they would still make money any since it's not a GPU.

This is just my take on it, I have no clue how they managed to get GDDR5 and giving the consumers a proper price point. AMD must be doing Sony a huge favor and it could be for Sony and AMD being partners maybe for future consoles as well.

I don't see how that's possible considerin the apu would already have the GPU in it. What you are talking about would mean they coudl have a 4GBGPU if they wanted to.

That's correct, with unified you can adjust it, so if you want 2GB for the system and 6GB for the GPU no problem, or you can give 6GB to the system and only 2GB to the GPU, or 1GB to the system and 7GB to the GPU, they both use the same memory pool so it can be adjust to how the developer sees fit. Am I correct with this info?

With the PS3, the system had 256MB and the GPU had 256MB...period...which the system was even smaller because of the OS overhead
