If you guys watch the "Infamous Second Son" trailer, if you look at the really close close-ups of the characters (from any angle), you can tell that it's definitely not equal amount of detail as in actual CGI. I'm 99% convinced that these trailers are either real-time or best case scenario ingame =)
What are you guys thoughts? Do you think it's just target render, or actual real-time graphics ?
Edit: I was right!!!

No doubt the trailers were real-time. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice some clipping in the Deep Down trailer when the guy attacks the dragon.

i believe most -if not all- of them were real time.
infamous is the only questionable one as there didn't seem to be any gameplay shown

Looks like a well made cinematic (not Gameplay) and as such it's perfectly in Real-Time.
Probably a bit doctored in the antialising and post processing aspect? Maybe.
I've just uploaded the original, direct-feed 1080p video for you guys. (Found only shitty quality videos on youtube)

I did notice some cutscenes at least...though KZ seemed like all gameplay.
EDIT: and I urge everyone to please stop using the word realtime generally, because a cutscene can be realtime and it may not look anything like gameplay.

There shouldn't be a noticeable gap between cutscenes and gameplay though. Current-gen titles like Uncharted showed that. It was real-time or 'in-engine', whatever you wanna call it.

They won't get it to 60, they will be able to cram in there way bigger textures and worlds though. As for Infamous, after watching Aquanox's uploaded trailer, i can safely say it was 100% realtime. If it has gameplay footage in there is anyone's guess, since the camera angles makes it impossible to determine it.

Possibly, but I don't know, At a certain point isn't up the the capabilities of the gpu itself. I mean to be fair most modern cards probably have ~ 1-3gigs max in a custom rig for an off the shelf GPU. Depending on what all the cram in there/how hard the card is working as is (and how much optimization has already been applied) this might be the best we see from this game.

I think they are calling it Killzone: Shadow Fall because the shadows in that game look sweet!

I believe they were, but then again it could been a neat clear trick in making us believe they were

Unfortunatelly, Memory won't allow for better framerates, at least not dramatically better - yes it can serve as a booster if you pre-load objects - It will affect more the detail of what you can see, mainly in the environment.
I'm quite intrigued about it and eager to see how devs put this massive amount of memory to work... not even PC games like Crysis 3 use so much RAM - vRAM.
I remember GTA 4 going well past 1GB of vRAM and that's an old game so probably, sandboxes will be most benefit with it.

I do hope that pop in is mostly non existent next gen.
I an very happy with what i saw, but if i have to be TRULY honest, here's how the KZ trailer/gameplay went for me:
Wit the start, when he was on the heli i was truly amazed, my jaw was on the ground!
But when the game actually started and we seen gameplay ( shooting) it looked noticeably ...worse. It still looked beyond what we see this gen but not as impressive as the cut scene parts.
I know we still have like...9 months and a lot of optimisation left and it probably will look a lot better.Last edited by LfCpS3; 02-22-2013 at 15:52.

Some footage may have been using in-game assets, but that doesn't necessarily mean the game will look that good when you're actually playing it. We've all seen developers do this before, and it won't be any different with the PS4. Personally I only 'accept' footage that was clearly actual gameplay, which is why Killzone and Watch Dogs were so impressive.

They were showing off their engine, so we obviously know it's in-engine. The question is if that was gameplay or an in-engine cut-scene with the UI pasted on.
Even if it was a cut-scene, that still means something, since it's actually using the game engine unlike that 2005 pre-rendered Killzone trailer. The gameplay could and should end up looking close to that.
