Yes, that is Crysis 1. Tweaked, yes, but it's still the original Crysis.

Amazing how well a game from 2007, less than 1 year after the PS3 launch can look on a good PC, isn't it? And in case you're wondering, my PC has no problems running the game at 1920X1200 with a minimum frame rate in excess of 60 FPS at with these graphics.

Well said. They've taken a route I wish they would have followed for the PS3. Instead of trying to use the Playstation brand to push their in-house tech they are simply making the best system for developers and gamers with the budget they have.

Is it going to match a $2k+ high end gaming PC? No.
Is it going to provide a very high quality experience for gamers, a solid platform for game development, and still not cause Sony to go broke? Oh hell yes.

    To put it simple:

-With the PS3, Sony wanted the industry to adapt to them.

-With the PS4, Sony is adapting to the industry.

Definitely a more humble and level-headed approach. They're not pushing any new formats, they're not pushing new TVs, they're not pushing exotic architecture, etc. However, Sony does seem to be ambitious in the streaming area.

Exactly. You can't claim the PS3 can deliver more impressive achievements than the PC because it can't. It's not possible. But the important thing it for people to understand what exactly both console and PC gaming is. Consoles are well-wrapped, enjoy packages of optimized and no-hassle gaming. PC's deliver an open and tailored hardware experience. They both appeal and deliver experiences in different ways for the gamer specimen.

I think Sony has realized that accessibility is what's important in the entertainment market right now. Things have changed a lot the past 5 years, and we could see these attempted shifts with updates made to both the PS3 and 360 during their lifetimes. They want to get the hardware out there into consumer hands, make it easier to develop for, and push for more core ways to enjoy the system while recouping profits here and there via digital means.

Honestly, if Sony can price this thing right they could seriously knock MS into the dirt right out the starting gate. But MS may have a win up their sleeve too.

Well, sort of. SONY has always had a weird "humble arrogance" about them, more Jackie Chan than Bruce Lee. Meanwhile, MS is Bill Murray, all "Love us or you lose." While MS deflected every question over the 360s long time horrendous failure rate - which lasted a couple of years or more, SONY quietly began to admit halfway into the PS3's lifecycle that maybe it was a little more technically involved than the typical console. Which was likely a signal to developers that they were ready to begin a dialog on the next system.

SONY's mia culpa at the conference wasn't much longer than a few lines, given with a shrug and a smile. It was subtle and short. Then they smoothly stepped back into the old, familiar, affable but confident SONY which was all about delivering the best gaming experience with the best consumer friendly technology available. Of course, this time they had reason to be confident, as they had essentially asked their best developers to co-design the new system, an affordable dream Playstation.

It was slightly milder this time, but it was still pretty much that same soft spoken tone as before, the usual "humble arrogance" as always. The emotional pyrotechnics were reserved for where it belonged, in speakers blaring incredible soundtracks and effects which supported huge screens displaying the latest graphical marvels as David Cage said, "Once only possible in CG films." As much as he was trying to sell the gaming press and gamers on the PS4, he seemed genuinely excited over the potential of SONY's new box. They all were. If ever there were $#@!y moments at SONY conferences, it usually came from the devs, custodians of proud offspring they got to show off to the world.

Oh by the way C-Average, Crytek upgraded the graphics in Crysis 1 at least once.

So you'd rather have a smaller industry, less people in jobs and less money in the business which oh by the way = less of the AAA games you just love to play on your thousand dollar PC, right? Ok I'm glad we settled that one.

Your response gives me a chuckle. Care to share your programming experience? A list of games you've helped develop to have this wonderful insight would be nice.

Don't tell me you're just making up comments because you don't like what I said. That would be lying, and you're not a liar, are you?
Many years struggling with the latest games on mid-range hardware. Something I'm getting the feeling you have precisely zero experience with, but by all means continue to preach to the peasants from your castle.

When games run worse on a PC than a console, on hardware that is around 5 times as powerful as a PS3 (same resolution) and simpler to code for, there's nothing else to blame but $#@! optimisation. And don't even go there with the straw man "PC games are bad because of consoles" argument. Just don't. PC exclusives are some of the worst optimised of the lot.

Erm what. For the past few weeks you have done nothing but moan about how the next consoles aren't going to be anywhere near some personal bar you set for them. Epic back tracking, bro

Yep. They were very adamant coming off the PS2. They found out the console world doesn't resolve around them.
