There are a bunch of tutorials I've used on deviantart. Let me know if I can help you with anything. Oh do you use GIMP or PS? I'm familiar with both but PS is what I use.

I use gimp and how do you think I taught myself how to use it? Deviantart all the way!
In fact I save all of you guy's work as reference to try and reverse engineer effects
