Eh I still don't really get the Steambox.
PC gamers will have no interest in it. The only reason PC games dip into the console market is to play the exclusives they don't have available on PC. Steambox library won't have that.
And (This depends on where Steambox would be priced) if I, as a console gamer, am going to go into the PC market, I'm personally going to build a PC, not buy a Steambox.
So their biggest market is going to be the console gamer that wants to try PC games but doesn't want a PC, which seems pretty limited to me.
I know they ultimately want all of PC gaming to focus on Linux since it's free and potentially much better for game devs. Since Valve knows first hand how prevalent laziness is, they know devs aren't just going to drop their entire Windows setup, and if the Steambox is going to force devs to act on that switch sooner, they'll probably see it as a success.

Yes and no, you've pretty much thought what I'm thinking except that there's one thing, not everyone wants a big box of chocolates and prefer them not to be on show. Being about the size (or a teeny nit bigger) of a Gamecube and wireless it means that it can be tucked away out of sight. Not sure if anyone has seen the pictures of the thing sitting behind a monitor on the VESA mount, it looks great.
We'll need to see what happens but I honestly think that this is going to be big but with a very slow start until people start to catch on about it.
It'll still play game decently at least anyway just I guess the most recent ones at medium-ish settings. ^^;
