Kind of an odd omission. I doubt this will affect many people, but since this shouldn't be hard to put it, I don't understand.ソニー・コンピュータ・エンターテンイメントのアンドリュー・ハウス氏、インタビュー終わり。まずプレイス テーション4ではSACD、CDはサポー トしません。
Translation: Andrew House said PS4 does not support CD and SACD in interview.
This also confirms the lack of PS1 backward compatibility.

Who uses them anymore?
As far as BC is concerned, the PSN versions should be able to run if Sony chooses to go the emulation route, though it seems gaikai will do all the BC this time around (still think psOnce and ps2 should be easy emulation since they are already emulated on ps3)

Was this even necessary? I have to assume it was, but I was under the impression the blue ray was totally able to read CD's, and that the only issue here would be licensing. I imagine that must be pretty damn cheap... but I guess Sony has to cut corners where they can. Though, perhaps it is redundant. Hell, I kinda regret buying a CD-player for my current PC as I've never used it.

Ixion, how many CD stores do you still see around in your area? They just closed the last Specs store near me and FYE a couple of years ago. CDs are now obsolete. It's not necessary.

Will not miss it. Haven't used an audio cd for a couple of years.
I won't be able to play my ps1 games but it's ok. It's not like I'm actually playing ps1 games with the ps3, and I'm not really keeping them to be able to re-play them.
To hell with cd. lol

If this is the reason we are getting a 6x BD rom im all for it.
If Xbox adds CD support expect a slower drive.

Well, he didn't say it couldn't play DVDs. I don't understand why they wouldn't include it to be able to play CD's. All BR players play cd's that I've seen.
