http://www.vgleaks.com/orbis-gpu-com...and-pipelines/A lot of rumors are flooding internet about GPU enhancements in PS4. We will try to give more info about this AMD’s custom graphic card inside PS4.
As we said Liverpool GPU is derived from R10XX family from AMD (Southern Islands). Front end blocks, back end blocks, and the basics of the shader cores remain largely unchanged. But they have added some major new additions (mostly aimed at improving the capabilities and efficiences of compute workloads).
Liverpool has multiple compute rings and pipes that provides fine control over how the system resources are divided amongst all of the application’s GPU workloads. This pipelines can perform simulteneous asynchronous compute.
This diagram exposes the queues and pipelines from PS4 GPU (you can click to enlarge the image).
PS4 GPU has a total of 2 rings and 64 queues on 10 pipelines
- Graphics (GFX) ring and pipeline
Same as R10xx
Graphics and compute
For game
*
- High Priority Graphics (HP3D) ring and pipeline
New for Liverpool
Same as GFX pipeline except no compute capabilities
For exclusive use by VShell
*
- 8 Compute-only pipelines
Each pipeline has 8 queues of a total of 64
Replaces the 2 compute-only queues and pipelines on R10XX
Can be used by both game and VShell (likely assign on a pipeline basis, 1 for VShell, and 7 for game)
Queues can be allocated by game system or by middleware type
Allows rendering and compute loads to be processed in parallel
Liverpool compute-only pipelines do not have Constant Update Engines (presented in R10XX cards)
looks like the RAM is not the only thing MS needs to address

Sony seems hell bent on giving all control to the devs of how they wanna use the hardware. Does compute refer to general purpose computations?

It seems the GPU has been made very efficient,
For example its capable at loading multiple work loads without a sweat
We need Mynd or lefein in here really to explain it properly
If you look at the Killzone footage with the explosion and how everything reacted to it this makes sense, some was saying that was a Cgi overlay belive it or not
Battlefield 4 should look amazing wih its destructible environments

How does it all translate to what the final product will be priced at...? PS4 start to sound more and more expensive the more I hear about it.

Compute units are they just AMDs way of measuring things?
Nvidia has CUDA cores.

Personally, i want to see a HUGE jump in physics simulations on the PS4 compared to last gen. I would even be super satisfied with slightly improved last gen graphics (better textures + 1080p resolution) BUT have insane physics! I would seriously cream my pants uncontrollably if the next Motorstorm has the physics shown in the 2005 trailer!

I don't understand any of this shit, but I love the names they give these cards...Southern Islands and Volcanic Islands or some shit.
What's up with graphic cards and islands? We need some North Island shit up in this orbis bitch...NZ FTW!

Sounds like a powerful yet efficient GPU. Hope it doesn't drive up the console price.

Sounds good, even though i dont understand any of it. I dont care about the price of the ps4, i will be buying day one.

Because Sony is actually buying these modified part as oppose to making them it cuts the production costs down a lot, not Sony plants for making PS4 parts and less R&D
I expect a price thats not stupidly cheap ($300) but not expensive ($600)
I'm expecting a $400-$500 price tag
