Comparing PS3 and PS4 specs: what it means for everyday use

They have little control over it its the manufacturer of the cards I think all cards still support it case of bacwards compatability much like SATA 2 drives work on SATA 1 controllers and vice versa.

I have 3.0 on my PC as well. I did notice the transfer rate is faster. I transferred my entire steam library in less than an hour. It was like 200gb. My External HDD is fairly slow too.

Yeah I want to get one that is an actual harddrive. That would be much faster but I don't think I would really use it much. I don't use the one I have much.

I'll stop derailing the thread after this:

When I upgraded my old PS3 HDD I took the old one and popped it in a cheap ass enclosure, was seriously about $10 for the enclosure. So not only did I bump the ps3 up to 320gb I had a pretty much free 160gb external.

Actually i am a bit disappointed with the lack of touch screen, i don't know what kinda purpose a touch pad will serve, just some stupid gestures.

Same here, I was looking forward to having a virtual keyboard on the controller to type on!

I still don't know what USB 3.0 is going to do for consoles. I know transfer rates will be faster for flash drives and what not but what other advantages are there?

Everything is faster on USB 3.0. I guess it charges faster also, information gets sent back and forth much much faster.

I know (I was just quoting an old movie), USB 3.0 has a major bandwidth increase compared to 2.0 and also provides more power which would allow much faster charging that we currently have. I am just hoping the hard drives will use SATA III interface, which I am sure they will.

I wouldn't assume that USB 3 would charge any quicker, USB 2 could push a lot of power if the ports are built to supply it. If it can charge an Ipad then I'm sure its more than enough for anything Sony would need.

Bluetooth 2.1 means better battery life

I'm surprised that they didn't go with BT4 that considering how stardised it is becoming.

Extra power is part of the USB 3 standard, so it should provide the extra recharge rate. But there is also the fact that recharging things too quickly can affect the batteries life and ability to hold charge

You cant really compare it on percentages, the architecture differences are the big differences in terms of potential performance and functionality rather than comparing the specs. Both Ps3 and Ps4 run in very different fashion.

The GPU is easy to compare, the memory bandwidth is also reasonably easy but the CPU's are a totally different breed. For instance if you compare them on mathematics you will find Ps3 is twice as fast but this doesn't demonstrate how they operate in action.
