SourceWe’ve got an interesting bit of news regarding the PlayStation 4 CPU. The AMD-made processor will have a final clock speed of 2 GHz. So far the CPU has been underclocked at 1.6 GHz for development kits sent out to various developers.
Previous leaks put the clock speed at 1.6 GHz, but that was for development kits. The final clock speed for the 8-core AMD CPU will be bumped up 2 GHz according to our source. On top of that, the source reports that both the CPU and the GPU will be manufactured at 28nm at GlobalFoundries’ Fab 8 in New York — GlobalFoundries is co-owned by AMD. A desktop version of the “Jaguar” CPU will be available later this year.
The custom chip in the PlayStation 4 includes both the CPU and GPU — both components are made by AMD. The 8-core CPU is based on the upcoming “Jaguar” design, while the GPU is based on the Radeon 7000-series and is capable of 1.84 TFLOPS of processing power. That’s about 4.5x more powerful than the PS3 GPU.
Well.....let's hope this is true!

Cool if its true
With 8gb gddr5, a potentially 'overclocked' jaguar cpu, wouldn't it get hot in that bitch?
I wonder if it will have an external power supply like the initial PS2 slims

I like the other rumor about the gpu being based on 8xxx series.
This is cool though.
Someone needs to start the rumor that the cell BE is soldered underneath, running the whole show giving the ps4 6 gflops.
Or did I just do that, lol..

"while the GPU is based on the Radeon 7000-series and is capable of 1.84 TFLOPS of processing power. That’s about 4.5x more powerful than the PS3 GPU"
No, just NO! The RSX had ~170 Gflops performance. The PS4 GPU has ~1.84 Tflops performance. That's 11x the theoretical performance. Add to the that the PS4 gpu is based on the next AMD architecture, the GCN2, that makes it a LOT more efficient and the gpu in the PS4 should have REAL world performance of more than 15x of that of the PS3 gpu! (this is just my opinion, from what i know the RSX is based on a 7800GTX which has 165Gflops theoretical performance)
p.s. it's the radeon 8000 series that's based on.

One of the article comments seems to debunk this rumor:
This article is completely incorrect. The PS4 APU is being fabbed at TSMC 28 nm bulk process. The Jaguar core was chosen(more like forced onto SCEI) because the PS4 APU is being fabbed at TSMC, even though SCEI's preference was for the Piledriver cores which could only be fabbed at IBM and GF's SOI fabs. The Jaguar cores are at the moment incompatible with the IBM/GF's process. It is Microsoft's Durango chipset that is being fabbed at IBM/GF's SOI fabs, not the PS4 APUs. One more thing, AMD sold off its GF stake a long time ago.

I was wondering if the processor piece and the graphics piece had to run at the same frequency or not. I've been waiting to see more detail on that front. I'd also like to know what the RAM is clocking at. I'll probably have to wait until E3 to get that kind of info though.. Or GDC.

Well that all sounds really exciting but I just hope and pray they will provide an adequate cooling system for the bloody thing

What do they mean its 4.5x faster than ps3 GPU?
ps4 is actually roughly 10x compared to ps3 GPU

Nice tecnicallity, Well this looks like we're really in for an old fashioned console wars show down!

Bloody hell! the next person who mentions this!! It's the other guys who had the inadequate cooling system for one. 2 If it's that over yalls heads that custom or not this was meant as the driving force for mobile platforms, ie, it wont need and industrial meat freezer inside just to keep your house from feeling like you're in the core of super nova!!!!!!

2GHZ is not going to happen.
2GHZ is the maximum spec for Jaguar. It's the extreme upper limit of what AMD says the processor can do. Yields at that speed will be less than at 1.6GHZ, so Sony would have to be willing to throw a lot of processors in the trash if they planned on 2GHZ. Unlike AMD, they wouldn't be able to use any of their processors that aren't reliable at that speed in lower-speed devices, so they would just be trashed and Sony would have to eat the financial loss.

This, the spec of the PS4's GPU fits in between the highest spec mid-range and lowest spec Highend 8000 series with GCN2, throw in the 8GB of GDDR and its not anywhere near the 7000 series
Its more a high mid range 8000 series pushed into Highend status, by how much is not known, obviously not better then the real highend cards
