This is alien talk to me. I just provided the link because my CPU won't let me post the article for some reason. Maybe Mynd can break this down for us.

it sounds similar to the PS4 CPU
i find it very weird that both companies have a CPU this similar o.O
if im not mistaken, they're both next to identical...Last edited by Fijiandoce; 02-28-2013 at 14:46.

VGLeaks information as far as Durango is from February 2012. Me personally I think MS will still be going with multiple SOCs

Yeah they certainly seems to be although insiders have said that both have customizations made. Don't know what exactly
Also from the talk of 16 cores, I have a question:
We know that jaguar has symmetric cores as opposed to ps3's asymmetic SPUs. So my question is do symetrical cores distribute workload automatically or do they need to be individually programmed like assymetric ones?

April 26 2020?

a dual APU set up is highly unlikely. for starters Microsoft aren't making much money from Xbox service (i'll try to find the article i read, which was months ago - it may have been in time magazine o.O) so selling a console competitively which costs twice as much to make would be next to impossible.
next, the heat both Soc would create would need better cooling, again pushing up costs.
whilst dual APU aren't an impossibility. 8 cores in each is dreamland stuff. the core count and clock would be reduced at which point you might as well just save money and put it all on one chip. which i most likely what they've opted for.
at one point both Sony and microsoft probably thought of dual CPU/GPU. but both came to the conclusion that an APU was the best choice for them. cost/performance.
Sony wanted 4 bulldozer cores @3.2GHz if i recall. and we see how that's played out. double the cores, half the frequency; lower heat, lower power consumption, lower cost.

This is probably going to sound funny coming from me, but I don't imagine it's too much a stretch of the imagination if Sony wanted something similar to the XBox this time around. Sony took an unnecessary bath last gen when it came to third party support, which was sad considering they invested significantly in having better hardware. It was just a bad strategy.

hmm, there was a rumor floating around that the 720 rumor was twice as strong as this...

Anybody read the story re: Superdae?
I think you all should have a read, if you haven't, misdirection is a powerful tool.

It will be a dual APU set up, gpu's been boosted to 900mhz the cpu's at 2.0 ghz. A multi-CPU, multi-GPU system in which one combo is reserved for the Xbox platform (dashboard, video encoding/decoding) and one is reserved for applications (gaming). Actually I think Sony's upgrades has been a reaction to what they know or heard MS is doing.

unless they are the same card, this amounts to nothing

i've never heard anything saying that the Xbox would come with two APU's. Digital foundry were spot on with the PS4 specs as was VGleaks. to bring up that February time frame, i think it was mynd...mynd was it you who said AMD had trouble printing wafers for Microsoft?(genuine question) anyways, this would require a redesign of Microsofts motherboard, cooling, memory etc
but im not discrediting you guys, im simply playing devils advocate. the task at hand would be monumental.
if Microsoft have chosen to implement a redesign(of sorts) that late it would explain why AMD gave priority to Microsoft development recently...that or Microsoft spent too much time dallying around

No, I'm referring to the fact that MS knew about this guy for sometime and did nothing to shut him up, at all.
Their sources were multiple "not SuperDae" developers etc for the PS4.
For the XBox, they have all gone of one set of documents provided by SuperDae.
Semi accurate have said they have bee some issues in delaying the wafers for MS's latest chip offering.to bring up that February time frame, i think it was mynd...mynd was it you who said AMD had trouble printing wafers for Microsoft?(genuine question) anyways, this would require a redesign of Microsofts motherboard, cooling, memory etc
This does tend to put credit it hat its simply not a basic APU die setup.
The earliest, very earliest reports we had regarding Durango was that the final kit would have something like "two Graphics cards taped together".but im not discrediting you guys, im simply playing devils advocate. the task at hand would be monumental.

Furthermore, the whole "display pane" thing makes zero sense in terms of a single GPU, it simply doesn't. It makes zilch.
I do believe MS has discreet GPU+CPU for os.
If this is a completely separate SOC, or simply reserved CPU cores, one thing is for sure..it has two completely separate GPU's threading through this system.
1/ Display panes make little sense otherwise.
2/ Differing resolutions and frame rates are allowed, that's impossible on a single GPU system.
3/ Reports are that you can suspend a games, go run apps, and come straight back to the game.
4/ Its likely that any SDK released is only going to outline whats available to developers for games, they don't need to know about the second SOC, they wont ever get to use it.
Even their earliest confirmed leaked documents point to 2 socs....

Green=Game SOC (CPUS+GPU)
PURPLE=System SOC (CPU+GPU).
My money would be on something like
The 8 core +GPU for games we have seen (the GPU may or may not have its own GDDR)
A 2 core (maybe?)+APU for the system.

Since both consoles will be developer friendly this time (no excuses for bad polishing this time around) it will be games, with a good aid of multiplatform ones, who will decide which console pulls the best graphics .... It's what all this is about right?
Please don't fall again in the same hole. It happened past gen and it's happening all over again with Sony fans already bragging about their more powerful console even before a single official word about the next Xbox has been said. How about waiting until - at very least - April before jumping into so many conclusions... those falling into this will not have authority to refute MS fans doing the same if the next xbox specs are something to write home about.
Patience and prudence guys.

I think we all understand it's rumor and speculation at this point.
But if I was a betting man, I strongly be putting my money on a system soc and a game soc.
I think MS's goal this gen was to notify you your friends were online, or achievement was unlocked or what ever etc etc, without any affect on the game performance.

Woudnt they need to reserve a fair amount of RAM for minimsing the game to go launch these apps?
