What do you think this length of time will be. I am not going into a discussion on what the next system will be, shit the PS4 hasn't even released. What are your predictions for the length of time before the next PS system hits?
I'm thinking 5 or 6 years. In my mind it's not worth trying to future proof a system because it's impossible. They tried doing that with the PS3 and while it did last 7 years now, I think Sony may try to cut down the length of time per system.

Yeah 6 years is a nice sweet spot now. I mean we still seeing games for both systems coming out looking better and better so 6 years is a good spot. Longer dev time, easier on consumers wallet.

Well every ps console has had a life span of 6 years. But now with the PS4, it'll last a little more. I'd say 7 years. So by 2020 i'd say we'll see a new console.
Oh, I'm sorry did I break your concentration I didn't mean to do that. Please, continue. - Jules

Same here. I don't want them coming out too fast.
And 6 years at most...really? Why do people want consoles to come out so fast?
I think now more than ever we've reached the peak of how games look, graphically, so consoles should last longer now IMO. Improved gameplay and AI are a must both of which don't need a more powerful system except maybe the AI. Better programing needed there which probably needs a more robust system but not leaps and bounds ahead of what we will have with the PS4 I don't think.Last edited by podsaurus; 03-01-2013 at 01:45.

I think it's fair to say that the PS4 will be no different in its lifecycle than the PS2 and PS3. 6-7 years with a couple devs continuing to support it for another 3-4 before Sony eventually discontinues the platform.

I'm sure about 6-7. The standard for consoles. I don't think the future of consoles is all doom and gloom as many predict. I see both MS and Sony bring these systems out for the same length as all the others. WiiU may not serve the same fate though.

I'd hazard a guess at about 6 years. It's a fine line really though because if it is shorter you'll get people who complain that it's not been long enough and if its longer you'll get some people who say its gone on too long. Six seems about right to me.

I would say 7 years until we will get PS5. I hope I would be a live by then.
