]Speaking in an interview with the official PlayStation blog, Senior VP of Sony Worldwide Studios, Michael Denny, talked about the importance of the indie community on the PlayStation 4.When asked ‘Will the indie community have a big part to play in PlayStation
4?’ Mr. Denny replied, ‘Yes, absolutely. It’s always been part of our remit to offer different and unexpected experiences, and often the indie community thinks in those sorts of terms.’ he continues, ‘From a first party perspective we have an external development studio that’s
always reaching out to new start-ups and new innovators.’Finding and helping develop small promising studios is something Sony knows how to do. From thatgamecompany to Media Molecule and Giant Sparrow, the PlayStation 3 was a great home for independent studios to bring their visions to life. It is great to hear Sony plans on continuing that trend.‘People
forget Media Molecule were just four guys when they first came to us with an idea. And that goes on all the time – not just in the UK, but throughout Europe as well. There are lots of new teams coming through. We’re always looking for new teams with big ideas and big ambitions.’ Michael Denny concluded.
I am hoping so for this, because i love playing indie games

I think with the more common architecture of the PS4, indie devs will benefit from this new direction for consoles. This should mean they will not have to spend the extra man hours developing for the consoles. Less time means more affordable to make. Although that could be offset with rising cost of developing on New tech.

On a related note I'm interested in what direction Sony take with their network regarding indie devs as well as large studios at the big publishers. They've been thrown in the same boat as Microsoft by a lot of people who should know better but that's unfair. At the same time PSN is obviously still a closed network compared to what developers can do on PC.
I'd really like to see Sony's strategy with CCP for DUST 514 and what they did with Valve for Portal as the blueprint for everybody (if they want that kind of control over their games) moving forward. It could give PSN the edge long term

Hopefully this means cheaper PSN prices.

Yeah Sony has always been indie friendly and this generation it looks like they are set to continue this winning streak. Nintendo at least are catching up to Sony by eliminating costs to developers and ease of getting on the market place.
Microsoft has done a great job of driving away the indie market in recent years and Sony is set to gain from this.

The only thing that i really see that hurts indie devs on PS3 is the cost of updates. Which I'm sure they make damn sure the game is ready upon release. One thing that seems to happen with indie devs versus big company devs. They probably aren't under timeframes near as bad as the big companies so they aren't rushing.

Every indie I have every dealt with is usually at the very ends of their funds by the end of the project. Rushed to get the product out or risk total unemployment. Indie development is glossed over as something slow and unique but it does have a very bad downs nd dark size to it.
