DICE receives AMDs "next gen" APU dev system

Looks different than the ps4 devkit we saw with the dualshock 4 leak. How can a DICE dev tweet out a picture of an unannounced NDA protected xbox 720?

Notice that its one tiny cooler. Guess larger cooler isn't needed. Good sign hopefully

You're assuming it's a next xbox dev kit because it differs from the leaked PS4 devkit or is there anything else I'm missing?

    Tweet llink btw: https://twitter.com/repi/status/3068...866688/photo/1

I'm not assuming either. However ps4 dev kit is more likely. Just thought it was interesting since it looks different.

Since this is 3 weeks old, it may be the new dev kits after the RAM upgrade

Small fan was the first thing I noticed. That's about 1/3 the size of the PS3 one

It's not, it's an AMD Dev Kit period. Made by AMD for customers planing to build something based on the AMD chipset. Hence the sticker saying 'Property of Advanced Micro Devices'

    Jeez...All this misinformation

(Not blaming you, you probably read it from someone else who thought it was cool to start another rumor)

Uhm, clicked on the image to expand it to it's native resolution, and I have a good monitor. Didn't even bother to zoom in. I can give you the Serial Number if you want it

If he's not allowed to say leads me to believe that it's NOT a PS4. Whether it's the NextXbox or something else, is unclear.

I thought AMD didnt have anything announced till next year or as they like to put it end of Q4 which would lead into next year, since they are doing the CPU/GPU for the PS4 I would rather have them concentrate on that because that is a big order for AMD and they need the money with the loss they had over last year. It would give them time to maybe create something even better

I don't know where you heard that, but AMD started shipping their Richland APU in January, start shipping their Temash APU later this month, and will start shipping their Kaveri APU sometime this fall.

The PS4 is basically Kaveri with an 8 core Jaguar CPU instead of a 4 core Jaguar, and a desktop 8000 series GPU instead of the lower powered 8000M GPU. There isn't a lot of specialization for the PS4, it's basically off the shelf tech for AMD, just with a few tweaks done to meet Sony's requirements.

This could be something built off the same tech they built for the PS4 APU. Could you imagine a near 2 Tflop APU in a PC rig with AMD Kaveri powering it? Its nice to think about. If PC gaming shifted to Gen4 tech. PCs would get the big version. :P

Just think OpenCL utilized with possibly 2 Tflop APU. Kinda like the consoles with CU programmed for graphics, and physics similar to PS4/X720 development. Then your GPU card running in the rest of your PC rig at who knows what kinda power or possibly in combination with OpenCL/DirectX11/OpenGL compatibility all mixed into it. Take AMD 7970 with 4 Tflops + APU with 2 Tflops. Roughly 3 times what PS4 could do with 2 Tflops = 6+ Tflops. PC advantage. Not going to stop me from buying PS4 though.

AMD did confirm they plan to sell APU like what is in the PS4, but without Sony's tech in it to the PC consumers.

DICE however I do expect to show their next Battlefield with Microsoft's conference in April/May.

I do wonder if APU powered machines are the future of high end systems. AMD seem to think there's a strong case for it
