I have to say not all games via Origin are bad. I bought Mass Effect 3 which, yeah it had the whole online activation thing that annoys me, but it was only once and the game (so far) works flawlessly offline.

I pre-ordered a while ago, got it on launch day, and haven't had a single issue with it. I don't like the always on aspect, and I hate DRM. However, if it does affect me, I'll crack the damned game, and enjoy it that way.

Anyone here actually do that (crack) and tried playing the game off-line? Does it work?

I thought the entire game is server side, the only way you can crack it is by getting into the servers first I would think unless you can route this game to your own server. I'm glade I skipped this title, Electronic Arts way of trying to get more money from players is to get this game server side then they are going to add more and more things to this game. Look at how awful SimCity 3 is, that game is expensive to all hell. haha either way, I dodged a bullet with this game. It looks fun and all but just the entire fact that I have to be online in order to play and there still isn't much in the game anyway. This game looks to be a bare bones SimCity and I will never support that since this was done quite a few years ago, in fact in the 90's SimCity was barebones. There is no excuse for them to do this. I'll wait until like maybe the 2nd or 3rd installment of SC comes out.

So did Electronic Assholes fix their DRM garbage for those who bought the game? I'm curious. I'm serious, day by day my interest in the gaming industry diminishes. It's sad.

As far as I know, they added a bunch of servers and people are able to play it now. I dont support always-on, yet I really want to play it. Probably say "fuck it" and buy it when its cheap
EDIT:
Though I dont get it, Blizzard released Diablo 3 with always-on - granted they werent stupid and under provided servers, though they did have wow experience - but EA does it with simcity and they are scum of the world. I tried to point this out elsewhere and pretty much got bitched at..
Hell CoD is adding some kind of microtransaction-like thing and its cool, yet EA did it to Dead Space 3 and they "ruined it"... I really dont get the one sidedness in the gaming community.

There are always apologists.
The answer is not adding more servers; it's that there shouldn't have been servers needed to run the game in the first place. Blame piracy all you want, but that's companies not accepting the fact that you can't catch them all - that's just unrealistic Or that they are too stubborn to adapt, evolve, and gauge interest organically - enough to encourage purchase rather than deter pirates.
In the end, consumers are fucked.

Blizz and COD can do no wrong period. Look at WOW and what they did to that yet people still fork out the cash like it is nothing. EA is not the worse company out there but they not as popular as others so it is cool to bash them. The D3 launch as well as the game was a disaster yet people worship anything blizz throws their name on.

I didn't read the entire thread but I can see the need for an online-only mode of this game. They designed it to be more like a functioning economy, similarly to SimCity 4, but where other players exist within the same region. From what I understand, this enables trade between other players and gives them freedom to try new types of cities, unlike the formula in previous SimCity games. In previous games, there was a delicate balance of R, C and I zones, and magical placement of services to please everyone. In this, it sounds as if you could manage a small (successful) farming/mining community that provides resources to other players in return for Simoleons. If you don't want to play a region with other players then you can set your game to a private region.
So the problem with you nerds is the "always online" requirement? Big deal. Yes, your data is saved on EA servers. Welcome to the year 2013. It's the fucking cloud, now. Your e-mails, bank accounts, videos and countless other things are saved on some companies servers, somewhere. Go cry more.
Personally, I like have my game data being stored in the cloud. If my hard drive dies then I still have all my hard work. If I log into my account on a friends computer then I still have my data. If I want to view game data stats from a web browser, while not in game, then I can do that.
Seriously, what's the problem? It's not like you guys have dial-up connections...

I have been burned again with the always online DRM so agreed that like Ubisoft I won't be purchasing another EA game again till they too sort their act out, but there is one thing to say is that they have sorted out the stability and login issues of the game now, it's been fine since Saturday to be fair.
The game isn't shit but again it isn't amazing either but at the same time it's highly addictive and that's why Sim City shines still. They do have a lot to fix and change for the next Sim City but for one thing for sure is that they bloody well sort out that broken simulation because all sims go to the nearest building... yeah simulation works! *coughs*
I don't think you quite get it, it's not that the game can be played online and does help in some regards, it's the fact that you can simply have that portion of the game separate, all you need to do is click "multiplayer mode" to do it. All games have this option so I don't see why Sim City shouldn't. The other problem is that while you can help the other neighbour it doesn't seem to be working properly at all, in fact in most cases it doesn't even work at all. Seriously the game's mechanics are broken and to be fair it's not even ready for release and feels like an alpha build (no I'm not joking about that). They are patching the game regularly and quickly which is a good thing and there's been more options added to the game but these things should have been there in the first place.
Having said all that I'm still addicted to the game.

You're right. It's not a big deal that data is saved to the cloud. It's also not a big deal if EA allowed players to play without being connected.
Blizzard just released Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm and it's playable offline. I remember Starcraft 2 required us to be connected and my assumption is that the patched it (I didn't verify until yesterday.)Last edited by sainraja; 03-14-2013 at 02:07.
