http://www.develop-online.net/news/4...ower-up-on-PS4Morpheme 4, xaitControl, Enlighten, PhysX, Apex and SpeedTree supporting new console
A wave of game development middleware firms including Naturalmotion, Geomerics and xaitment have pledged support for Sony’s PS4.
Tools now compatible with the next-gen console include xaitControl, morpheme 4, SpeedTree , PhysX, Apex and Enlighten.
Naturalmotion’s new animation tool Morpheme 4 offers developers advanced prediction modelling capabilities to help build complex integrations between animation and AI systems, while a new ScatterBlend parametric blend node has also been introduced to the tech to help streamline animator workflow.
Geomerics meanwhile has announced its lighting tech Enlighten, which has been used in titles such as Battlefield 3, will also support PS4 development. The middleware outfit stated that with a dramatic increase in memory and computer resource in Sony’s new console would mean much better and more realistic dynamic lighting in next-gen titles.
Middleware firm xaitment has also pledged support for the PS4, with its AI tech xaitControl, which helps developers with game logic and character behavioural modelling, now available for PS4 developers.
Graphics technology outfit Nvidia has revealed that both its PhysX and Apex software development kits will be compatible with PS4 development. The tools aid game designers with collision detection, simulation of rigid bodies, clothing, fluids and particle systems.
As well as these tools, SpeedTree will also support the console. The tech offers developers a solution to create real-time trees and plants with “seamless” LOD transitions, as well as offering lighting, physics and wind effect capabilities
The news of the wave of tech companies announcing support for the PS4 comes after Sony announced its next-gen console just two weeks ago on February 20th, where support for development platform Unreal Engine 4 was also announced.
You can find all the news from the night here.
With all hardware drawbacks of the PS3 completely blown out the water, PS4 is going to dominate. MS had better bring its A game...When the industry's most prolific content creator builds an easy to code for developer's dream, shit gets serious and apps probably won't cut it this time.

Well, all things considered, hair is still notoriously the most difficult thing to model, so despite there being a massive improvement, I still don't expect hair to be that great.

It's funny how all these developers promote the hell out of their "engines"..... but all their engines use a mix of these middleware products (PhysX, Havok, Enlighten, etc).
Frost Bite for example uses Enlighten for lights, Havok for destruction and physics, etc.
Unreal Engine uses Nvidia for everything. Physics, clothe physics, destruction, etc.

i've been saying in a few other threads. PhysX adds so much to a game you can literally turn other settings down and not notice! xD
its a shame its exclusive to High end Nvidia GPU's on PC's though. regardless of its implementation on the PS4, PhysX low setting is infinitely better than PhysX no settings

I don't want to hear any excuses from devs when next gen finally gets here.
I can't wait to see what next gen specific engines can produce.

The PS3 did too, except it wasn't gpu accelerated. The PS4 will probably be the same since it isn't an Nvidia card inside.

All of these different things supporting future games for the PS4. Does this prove even more that the PS4 is more PC developer friendly? I don't expect it to be identicle to a PC but I'm wondering if this means that it's that much closer.
All those different development tools, were they all mainly for PC developing at one time but now decided to make the support move to PS4?

PS4 might win the next console war. Is it me or is the wii u shit for a next gen console. Someone prove me wrong.

I don't think so. If you buy a Nintendo console you are not buying it to play games like you would on the PC, Xbox or Playstation. I don't have the WiiU yet but I do plan on getting it for games like Mario of course and Zelda. If they bring a good Metroid game to the WiiU that will be excellent.

Well this is a small vote of confidence in the development platform. Something like this while possible on Ps3 would have been much more difficult to port across, now we just need to see it being used in actual software.

This was expected really. Turns out middleware companies love money, that's why I'm sure half of these companies will squeeze these product down to the phone market while they are at it. The more flexibility the better however,
