As a lot of us know it depends who you play with but don't you think voice chat on the ps3 is minimal? Why is that cause you get a free mic with Xbox? There are some great headsets on the market at the moment!

Probably has something to do with it, but I'm sure a lot of people have mics. just those untalkative bastards like myself only bring out the mic when gaming with friends.

Not having a mic isn't the problem...i remember people would end up getting one back in SOCOM days...actually if you play Search & Destroy on COD games, you will see almost everyone with a mic.
The game needs to be of a type that sort of requires communication, otherwise pubs won't have chatters. I usually never chat even though i have a mic, only turn it on when im playing with friends.Praise the lord for Ni No Kuni!

It's a proper headphone with a mic attached to it (retractable). There are two versions of it, one just came out and is more expensive.
I have the older one, it's pretty good quality, also the thing lasts a good while. I read reviews about it that people had difficulty hearing people who were using this mic but i haven't had any issues.
What I like about it is that it's simple, there are no cords to mess with, everything is right there on the headset.Praise the lord for Ni No Kuni!

It's not because xbox gives you a headset, sure it makes it easier, but even on their machine if people dont want to talk you;ll get a pretty silent experience. Overall though since xboxers pay for their online they are usually more competitive and thus WANT to talk shit to the people they're playing. Sony offered a more cost effective and technologically forward option because most people have cell phones they figure you probably already have a blue tooth earpiece for it. And even if you didn't the competition in that product market makes it easy to find multiple options. The best one I ever had was a 20 dollar Jabra until the ear clip wore out.
Also the PSeye camera made for some of the most social gaming in Burnout Paradise between people collecting pics of their smashed opponents and the instant mic I spoke to hundreds of people in the time I played it. Now a days though there's just too many jerks and babies in general online that just ruin the experience. I find myself wanting to mute more people than I want to talk to._____________________________________________

I've got 3 of them (tritton axpro/720 and Sony's pulse), doesn't mean I use them all the time lol. It all depends on the game I'm playing, FPS I rarely use my mic if it's tdm, dm. Only search and destroy or socom games (ranked demo or in a Medley rm) where you don't respawn, a call out by you might be the round changer (even if you end up getting killed). Or even when I have it on, it's usually on mute because I'm listening to music
