So let me get this straight

We have the technology to see a bug from a satellite in space, do surgery with robotic arms from the other side of the planet and map out the entire human genome, but I can't get my pictures off of a YLOD PS3 hard drive without the original PS3 functioning...WTF!! Have we made any ground on this topic lately?

Sony is hardly NASA, or scientists lol. This has been known for a very long time and is the owners responsibility to back up their stuff. There is a backup feature for a reason lol.

Understood...but also unconvinced. People much more talented than myself can hack into CIA databases, but this issue has not been addressed. And yes, I know about the backup feature, just came a little too late.

I just figured that somebody other than Sony would have came up with a solution by now. With the inception of Jailbreaking and Homebrew and the such, does not seem to be to hard to tackle this problem.

My bad on the double post

A console isnt an open platform.

That's just the way it goes. You could get your pictures back, there is a way but you're not going to be able to.

No, pulled the hard drive and then the Ps3 got destroyed during a house move, so no temp fixing it for a quick data transfer.

Wouldn't it be great if you could just go buy a new PS3, log into your account, and all your stuff was already on there? This would be a nice feature for the PS4.

those technolgies are not available to the average joe, consoles are, oh and those satalites cost billions and the surgery robotics cost multi millions also, so dont expect a $299 device to be perfect.

Considering the world that we live in, it's hard to believe that Sony can't fully repair something as simple as a YLOD.

That would be awesome. And it's not that difficult to make. Apple does it both with iCloud and portable devices and locally with the Time Capsule and computers.
