http://www.computerandvideogames.com...years-to-come/Avalanche Studios exec: 'PS4 will out-power most PCs for years to come'
Just Cause studio sings Sony's praises
The PS4 will remain technologically competitive with PCs for years to come, according to Avalanche Studio's Chief Technology Officer.
The PS4 - which was unveiled in New York last month - is a very powerful gaming machine according to Linus Blomberg, Avalanche's CTO. Speaking to Gaming Bolt, Blomberg says the console will hold up against the PC for years to come.
"The PS4 will not only be a very powerful gaming machine from a hardware perspective, but it will also be a social tool and integrated marketplace more akin to successful mobile devices."
The exec said the platform was perfect for the open-world action games Avalanche specialises in. "We are confident that we'll bring open-world gaming to a whole new level because of it," he said. "I'm glad Sony decided to go with 8gb RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PCs for years to come."
Avalanche Studios CEO Christofer Sundberg last month posted an image of what appears to be a forthcoming game in the Just Cause series. It's heavily rumoured that Avalanche is also developing an open-world Mad Max game.

I'll believe if when I see it. There are already laptops that are rocking 8GB GDDR5 memory for the GPU's alone. Then again he didn't specify what PC's
I hope it's true though, would be a very impressive feat

If you've got Gameinformer for this month if you look in there you'll see it. I've got a picture on my phone with it but may not be clear enough for you to read.

Why I would make that up I don't know...
Edit: yup, Tapatalk reduces image quality. The laptop has two gtx680m each with 4GB. It also has 8GB ram.
I'll try and get a direct grab from my iPad later after work

You have no friggin' idea what SLI is, do you? Here's a link to the gaming laptop you're referring to:
http://www.originpc.com/gaming/lapto...ue&systemid=18
"Crank those graphic settings to the maximum with the EON17-SLX powered by NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 680M video card(s) in SLI or AMD's 7970M in CrossFire. With 4GB's of GDDR5 video ram, NVIDIA's PhysX and CUDA technology, top performance isn't something you seek, it's a way of life."
Two of those together = 8 GB of GDDR5, not one GPU with 8 GB of GDDR5. Even the NVIDIA Titan card only has 6 GB of GDDR5.

Edit:
This doesn't change the fact that what you said is wrong.Edit: yup, Tapatalk reduces image quality. The laptop has two gtx680m each with 4GB. It also has 8GB ram.Last edited by PeanutButterMunky; 03-11-2013 at 10:06.

I like that they said it will be more powerful than 'most PC's. There are already PC's out there that out power the Ps4 in every way, it's just a case of most people don't own things of that calibre and are not interested in buying such madness for years to come. There is little reason to upgrade PC hardware these days unless it's gaming/video work.

Really?
Yes, there are in fact laptops that have SLI with 8 GB of GDDR5... which is not what you said. Given the context of the subject matter... the PS4... [which has 8 GB of GDDR5 on one shared APU]...typing vaguely like that makes it easily assumed you meant one GPU.There are already laptops that are rocking 8GB GDDR5 memory for the GPU's alone.

GPU's is plural meaning more than one GPU, is it not?
I never claimed it had one GPU I just said it has 8GB of video memory what then sent you on a tirade against me.

Well then maybe had you just asked what I meant rather than insinuate that I am a liar or that i am clueless. it would've been a bit easier.
Regardless, some laptops DO have more memory overall - I wasn't incorrect. You just didn't understand me. No biggie.

Ugh...
At least Sony seems more focused on gaming this time and the devs. I think this will be a great next gen.
It's posts like this why I talk to you in the manner that I do.
The obvious response is... no shit. Some laptops support up to 32+ GB of RAM.Last edited by PeanutButterMunky; 03-11-2013 at 10:45.

How about you just block me if you don't like the way I post. I'm not here to give anyone a hard time but I'm not going to change the way I post to make sure PBM is happy.
No shit that computers have more RAM but they also have more, or in this case at least equal, graphic memory as well that is what I was referring to.
Then it comes down to buying a £2500 laptop vs a £400 console.

Sorry...it does not work that way. When you have two cards in SLI the onboard ram is not added together, the frame buffer in both are mirrored. So two 4gb cards in SLI means you only have 4gb of video memory, not 8gb.
AFAIK only the Titan even has 6gb...was pretty fun checking out my buddies SLI Titan setup
Nah...that would be GPUs. Pretty sure the apostrophe denotes possession not plurality.
That's the way I read it anyways...

I'll apologise for not being clear enough in the first case. My bad. I just assume because I know what I meant everyone else understands what I meant as well. Was my mistake.
Are you sure? I have 2 1GB cards and my computer always recognises having 2GB video memory...
Indeed it is! 2x SLI! Man that computer would churn through games. I've seen my friends 690 play some games I could only imagine what two Titans would run like.AFAIK only the Titan even has 6gb...was pretty fun checking out my buddies SLI Titan setup
The 690 is still the best GPU out at the moment I think but the Titan is the best single card GPU isn't it? But saying that I could've swore the Titan had two 680 chips inside of it. Unless its equal to the power of 2 680s, but then isn't that where the 690 comes in cause it was the first dual-chip card from Nvidia where they used 2 680 chips rather than a 580+570 for the 590.
This is all from memory so I'm not sure how much of it, if any is right. Slow day at work so I may read up on it now
Yeah, you're right actually.Nah...that would be GPUs. Pretty sure the apostrophe denotes possession not plurality.
That's the way I read it anyways...
