The upcoming PlayStation 4 will remove the shackles in terms of visuals that previously limited developers this generation, God of War: Ascension developer Sony Santa Monica has said.
"We're going to be able to show a lot more, right?" lead game designer of GoW: Ascension, Mark Simon said to Eurogamer. "If you give us enough time and you give us those specs, we will blow you away. Our team's pretty good."
In explaining how, Simon elaborates: "Well, the hardware itself has 16 times the memory we had on the previous console. The hardware takes a lot of the shackles off in terms of visuals."
However, eager God of War fans shouldn't expect a new title to launch on the PS4 any time soon, as Simon says the team have not yet gotten to that stage.
"To me [the PS4] is imagination land," he said. "We haven't touched it. We're not even concentrating on it. All we're concentrating on is we know we release in a week. I imagine we're going to be on our forums talking to players about the stuff they're experiencing in multiplayer and trying to address that stuff immediately. We're going to have half of our team ready to go for that stuff."
"We're going to continue to tune and balance and create new content. We still get to think about and imagine how cool it would be, but we're still working on this game on the PS3."
God of War: Ascension launches in Australia on March 14, 2013, exclusively on PlayStation 3. Check out MMGN's official preview of Ascension for more information, and stay tuned for our official review this week.

I don't want any fucking more god of wars. Let that shit die already. But I will play GOW:A.
It's time they work on Heavenly Sword 2.
Prepare for meltdowns if these next gen console rumors are true. Phase 1: Denial. Phase 2: Mask a lie under "opinion" vs a fact. Phase 3: Bring up the good ol' days when it has nothing to do with the subject. Phase 4: Say that the power gap doesn't matter but constantly defend the specs.

Devs say this shit every generation, and then they quickly get tired of the amount of RAM they do have.
Anyway, I want a God of War 4. God of War 3's ending was terrible. But, I wouldn't mind if they moved on to Norse mythology. And in fact, that maybe what they are doing anyway. As the God of War team have been heavily promoting the new Vikings original series that debuted a couple of weeks ago. They even had a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff regarding the show on the Ascension demo, at one point even comparing Odin and Ares as both are Gods of War for their respective pantheons.

This makes me very excited. Because I feel like developers can finally work on creativity this time around rather than trying to better the graphics...of course that will happen too but they know people don't want it to be photo-realistic and so they have a lot more RAM left to work on making the game bigger and more seamless.
That was my biggest gripe this generation. Because I would think to myself, "Well, if they could achieve games with 4MB of VRAM like that then I can't imagine how open the games will be this generation." Well, we saw that devs mostly worked on trying to get the resolution up, AA, frame rate and graphics overall...AI didn't progress much, neither did creativity.
We got the same games but upgrades...though very rare ones were spot on.
So this is what I really wanted last generation, it's about freaking time.Praise the lord for Ni No Kuni!

I believe that has more to do with the developer than the console itself.
I'm positive if PlanetSide 2 is coming to PS4 (and why can't it?) then it's just the beginning of many amazing open-world games we will likely see, especially from the PC world.
What is stopping them? The RAM is all there.Praise the lord for Ni No Kuni!

Nothing is stopping them, they just haven't announced those other games yet but they will. The RAM is there and the gpu power is there, the cpu is more than enough even though the cpu specs haven't even been released yet but it will be perfectly fine and wont bottleneck. The PS3 had a bottleneck built into the system and another one for the developers.
