I was going to post these pictures up yesterday found a link on reddit, but eventually realized its wasn't BF4, their raw images of the cinematic. But it wouldn't hurt if next gen graphics are like that .

I doubt making it hard to see anything is a good design choice.

Arma just doesn't seem on par let alone better to me. The textures are so pixelated in that game (especially the ground ones). Serious need of better AF.
Well, I wasn't talking about texture quality. You were arguing the lighting in Arma 3 was outdated and that it doesn't compete in post-processing. I have to disagree about the former.

As well as the opening shot in a more recent trailer:

I'm curious to see how much of an improvement BF4 will be visually. I'm actually kind of skeptical about how impressive it will look so I hope they're cookin up something delicious.

Arma 3 is a friggin awesome game and those that are saying it's ugly obviously don't know what they are talking about. BF3, while I play the game I personally think the frostbite engine's colors are awful. Everything is overly bright, the colors are basically 1 dimensional so even at 4 ft away people will blend in perfectly with the environment. The lag on the frostbite engine is the worst I've seen for a long time, the popins are horrible, then add in EA's everything online policy which is crap.

I can already tell there are going to be shooters better than the battlefield series when the PS4 hits. Pushing graphics is one thing but when the main gameplay suffers from it, tends to turn me off a bit.

Also, the lighting in Arma still has yet to be surpassed by a FPS game which I haven't seen yet, the entire game looks awesome.

Doubt it will be 60fps, they'll want as much processing power as they can get for graphics. Although if they haven't made a significant leap in visuals then it's possible.

PS4 could run the PC version equivalent of BF3 high settings at 60fps

Why could it not run it at 60fps at the highest setting on PC?

Maybe it could but it'd be a stretch because you're having to take 1080p into account as well as the frame rate and graphics bump.

So much... throwing out... guesses... at games... that don't exist... yet...
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.

I'm not going to buy a next-gen title that looks average. Unless if it was an MMO.

EDIT: Hmmm, if that's the same game as the video shown above then I change my mind. These pics look average though.

If the price is right. But I'm not a big indie fan...unless it's a very creative game, such as Minecraft...which isn't on PSN, bleh.

Yes, I've played Battlefield 3 and it looks awful. Most of the time you can't see anything. Such an overrated engine. At least ARMA 3's visuals are clean.
Battlefield 3 looks pretty, but the damn lighting at times. I don't even get it. They don't even look like that for real.

I think too many people are hung up on texture quality that they forget how important lighting and the overall scale of a game are. Clean visuals are realistic. It's why Arma 3 looks as impressive as it does and we're only seeing the alpha build.

Some games overdo it. Too much lighting and bloom effects. It's sometimes done to the point of hiding how $#@!ty the game really looks.

It does look very impressive for the most part. What I'm worried about are the gun mechanics (including gun sounds) and the way explosions look...very bland and dull.

If they get the gameplay right, I wouldn't care about all that but I'm too used to the gun porn from BF3.

    You've played ARMA 3?

Would you mind explaining just how you managed that since it's still months away from release?

Or were you talking about ARMA 2 which has been out for 4 years now, and has NOTHING to do with the screenshots I posted?

I don't see why BF4 can't be close or even at this level of graphical fidelity. Battlefield 3 on the PC looks comparable in some ways already, minus the obvious CGI polish.

I expect visuals similar to the OP images in the coming years.
