When have you ever seen a feature complete and ready to release Alpha version of any game? It's still months away from Beta testing, and even that isn't expected to be feature complete, especially in regards to the graphics. Everything right now is basic placeholders and few advanced effects. They're trying to test the basic game engine and don't need silly little graphics issues slowing down that production.
