Man i wish i knew about overclocking. Maybe ill learn more as this build progresses.

Hopefully I'll be posting a lot more in this thread over the coming months. End of this month a Corsair Obsidian 800D and AX1200i PSU shall be mine. I'll put the pics up when I get them.

Depending how much money I have I may also get a Asus Rampage IV 2011 Extreme board at the same time

What are some of the advantages of an extra 2 gb of video ram with the gtx 670?

More memory for bigger resolutions, more bandwidth. Not too sure if if makes if quicker though.

Check out a benchmark comparing the 2

    finally here!

Now on to the RAM next and also a cpu cooler. Which cooler do you all think is good for medium over clocking? Something affordable. Thanks.

I got a coolermaster Hyer TX 3 evo.
    http://www.coolermaster.co.uk/produc...roduct_id=6756

ITs a decent cooler and does much better job than the stock cooler and is adequate for a mild overclock upo around 3.8 which I have my phenom 2 running at now. playing tomb raider it gets no more than 46C

Honestly? Spend a little extra scratch and get a decent closed loop water cooler.

Yeah the corsair H cooler series are good value for money and allow you to do good overclocks. I'm debating getting the h100 if I decide not to do a custom loop. Custom watercooling costs too much money! 300 for a loop that goes to the CPU and GPU. Pricey stuff!

My price range for a cpu cooler is around 30 bucks. Im not going to go all out on overclocking anyways.

    That cooler will be fine.
TIs larger than the one I use so should offer better cooling to begin with and the new i5 3570 are pretty heat effiecient.

    Found this video with a 2500k @ 4.3GHz

    Should be fine.

I'd use this thermal compound though:

Hey whatever works for you man
I only replied since you asked...IMHO it's worth the extra $30 for a cheap Corsair closed loop cooler simply because of noise. BTW I have one of those EVO coolers...it's sitting on my shelf with no love

I have the Xigmatek Aegir cooler it works with both AMD/Intel sockets & it's really good and quite, it was 3rd on Frosty Techs list for best CPU coolers at the time for Temps on AMD sockets

Just remebered I also have an old Zalman 9700 cooler in my other PC. Comes with a fan controller which I set it on the slowest speed since that PC is not used for anything more than web browsing and word processing with the ocasional movie.
    Not $30 or less though

How much RAM are you planning on getting?

I have a CM Hyper 212 Evo(CPU fan), it works perfectly haven't had any problems yet besides the size(big.).
