Personally I'm fed up with this simplicity trend that's been raping design over the past few years.

    PS4 Design

Design so does matter. Why did people go mand for the Pink PS2 and buy new consoles due to a new slightly different shade of green. Why are Gold PS3's on eBay for 2000 etc. Size, shape, design and colour all have a huge impact even if its subliminal and you don't know it. Burger King do a great burger but you wouldn't buy one if the restaurants were dirty and looked like know one cared. I do agree that the software and functionality is more important than the hardware design but the sheer fact that this thread exists and everyone (large majority) is dying to see the new consoles at E3 etc is testament to how important the design is.

Those are all really ugly especially the last one.

Focus. Control. Conviction. Resolve. A true ace lacks none of these attributes. Nothing can deter you from the task at hand except your own fears. This is your sky.

I'd buy that. That means it'll also be cheap (in price).

Simplicity is the key. I'm a big boy now, i don't need an overly vulgar thing sat under my TV. It's supposed to look like a decent bit of kit. Not a toy.

You sure? No oversized rear spoiler for your PS4?

Design does matter, but for the casuals. I pray to God Sony doesn't make it look like it came strait out of the Alienware website. It must look like something casuals would buy, it must be white (that's the trend right now) and simple. Sony must go for the Apple look. The hardcores will buy regardless but if it looks too intimidating to casuals they won't even consider it.

2nd one doesn't look too bad and the third one looks like the Helghans from Killzone designed it.

I don't know about white but I'd like Sony to experiment a bit. Black is nice and all but I wouldn't mind something new.

PS4 in white will never happen (not at the start). Sony main color is still blue/black. So i guess it will be a mix of that.

I don't think it will be shaped like a retarded football like the PS3 was. I still think the top is going to be flat and it will have a rail system on it to slide the camera on, just like the pic I posted on the first page.

I am thinking they are showing it clipped to a HDTV, if it clipped onto the console like that you would have to leave you console sideways where the flat part faces you for the camera to work which would look strange. The camera will probably also need to be centralized on its placement, so being clipped to a HDTV would just make sense. What would be nice if they made the camera use bluetooth and just make it powered by USB so you could just plug it into the USB ports that exist on most HDTV's so you could hide the hideous cords without having to worry about charging anything.

My thoughts exactly. Most people have their HDTVs sitting on a stand, no room to put a stand up console in the middle in front of it. Those who have a bit of brains and have a surround sound system would have their Center Speaker there (I built a box to put my center speaker in and TV on top of when on the stand) there's no way I'd put my console in front of it, and you don't want the camera to be sitting way off to the side either.

I'm guessing that after the holidays a number of people are going to have multiple camera's sitting up on top of their TVs and someone's going to come up with the bright idea of doing a multi-camera mounting bracket to keep them all centralized. It will be made by some cheap chinese manufacture and fall over/apart/whatever after 3 days of use as well and look like $#@! to boot.

Any thoughts on how the industrial design relates to cooling? I.e., does the compact form-factor inherently place limitations on cooling which in turn limits power dissipation, which itself tells us something about the max performance that can be expected from this beast even allowing for a higher perf/Watt than a PC can achieve? H.

Sony should have hired Dieter Rams as a consultant. The stuff he did for brAun in the 60's was amazing.

Add screws and it would look like a proper 1U rack design, which is nice.
